Bush Administration Proposes Cuts To Salmon Protection

Author: KOMO Staff & News Services Source: KLEW TV-3, Lewiston (ID)

Title: BUSH ADMINISTRATION PROPOSES CUTS TO SALMON PROTECTION
The Bush administration Tuesday proposed large cuts in federally designated areas in the Northwest and California meant to aid the recovery of threatened or endangered salmon. Protection would focus instead on rivers where the fish now thrive.
The critical habitat designation originally included rivers accessible to salmon, even if no fish occupied them, and covered most of Washington, Oregon and California and parts of Idaho.
Under the federal plan, critical habitats would be cut by more than 80 percent in the Northwest and 50 percent in California - and more cuts might be ordered based on public comments over the next six months, said Bob Lohn, northwest regional administrator for NOAA Fisheries, the federal agency responsible for saving salmon from extinction.

So if you don't like his policies, instead of wailing and gnashing your teeth, why don't you write your Congressional representatives instead? DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

| Habitat V. Development | Dec 2nd. at 5:04:11 pm EST |

Says in the article:
"...places where the economic benefits of development outweigh the biological benefits of habitat. "
I wasn't aware this was ever the case. How can anything outweigh the benefits of habitat?
A: Why are you bulldozing my house??
B: There's natural gas under it.
A: But that's my house!
B: True, but I can make money off the gas, and not off your house. You see, the economic benefits outweigh the need for your puny little habitat.

Federal Agencies being responsible for anything with this current administration is like the fox guarding the henhouse. For all his talk about the evils of litigation, Mr. Bush sure is setting us up for a whole lot of it in the near future. You can bet there will be plenty of environmental groups that take this one to court.

This administration has declared a War on the Environment. And ironically, for the same reason as the war in Iraq - money. Some big money builders aren't getting to rape the environment in order to make more billions, so to hell with the salmon. I wonder when these weenies will realize that when no other species can live in the cesspool we are creating, we won't be able to live in it, either. Probably when it is way too late to do anything about it.

This man's policies are an abomination against Gaia. We deserve whatever she and the gods do to us for not getting him out of office.
