Idaho: Shasta Groene Found Alive

Author: Spokesman Review Source: Spokesman Review(WA)

Title: SHASTA GROENE FOUND ALIVE
A nationwide search for Shasta Groene ended at approximately 1:50 a.m. this morning, when the 8-year-old was recognized by staff at a Denny’s restaurant in Coeur d’Alene.
Taken into custody on kidnapping and fugitive charges was Joseph Edward Duncan III, 42, of Fargo, N.D. Duncan is a level 3 registered sex offender who served 14 years in prison after the 1980 rape of a 14-year-old Tacoma, Wash., boy.
Police did not have any information about her brother, 9-year-old Dylan Groene, who has also been missing since May 16. The bodies of the children’s mother, her boyfriend, and their older brother were discovered bludgeoned to death in their Wolf Lodge area home.

All statistics from the Bureau of Justice, and can be found [Web LINK]
* Within 3 years of release, 2.5% of released rapists were rearrested for another rape, and 1.2% of those who had served time for homicide were arrested for a new homicide.
This compares to:
* Of the 272, 111 persons released from prisons in 15 States in 1994, an estimated 67.5% were rearrested for a felony or serious misdemeanor within 3 years, 46.9% were reconvicted, and 25.4% resentenced to prison for a new crime.
Meaning, you are more likely to be victimized by a released drug dealer, carjacker, robber or con artist than you are to be victimized by a sex offender.
Meanwhile:
* Sex offenders were less likely than non-sex offenders to be rearrested for any offense –– 43 percent of sex offenders versus 68 percent of non-sex offenders.
In fairness, it should be noted that:
* Sex offenders were about four times more likely than non-sex offenders to be arrested for another sex crime after their discharge from prison –– 5.3 percent of sex offenders versus 1.3 percent of non-sex offenders.
However, once it becomes clear that sex offenders are the most monitored and tracked post-prison population in the United States, the high rate of re-arrest is not so surprising. It's not that sex offenders are committing more crimes (see above, they're not) , but that those who do commit another crime are simply easier to find than your average drug dealer, crack-smoking carjacker, armed robber or con artist.
They hysteria over sex offenders is simply that: hysteria. If the media started providing sensational coverage every time a convicted drunk driver was pulled over for again driving drunk, everyone would be screaming about how drunk drivers should be locked away for life. Period.
In the words of a certain hip-hop group, don't believe the hype.
Besides, I remember another time in history when we tracked a group of people and marked them so everyone knew who they were and could avoid them. Later, it was decided that they weren't productive members of society, and that they couldn't change who they were, and so the order was given to lock them all away. Then, a better solution was come up with: instead of locking them up, just kill them.
Sound familiar? It should. That's a dark, scary path to tread.

| White Suprmists? I Think Not... | Jul 2nd. at 1:36:04 pm EDT

FireFox (Uncasville, Washington) - Email Me

CDA is about 30 min from where I am... The supremists were almost liturally ran out of town several years ago.
Now, I think the kids were taken AFTER the murders, otherwise why would the older child still be there and also killed? Now, if Shasta was sold afterwards remains to be seen. This is HUGE news out here and I can't wait to find out what happens with Shasta and if they can find or find out any information on her brother Dylan! Everyone is in shock that she was found basically in her home town!
My prayers to the Goddess for Dylan.
