Foes Join Battle Against PATRIOT Act

Author: Rebecca Boone, AP   Source: The Daily Herald (Harktheherald.com)

Title: FOES JOIN BATTLE AGAINST PATRIOT ACT

Put pacifists, gun-rights advocates, pro-choice supporters and anti-abortion activists in a room and try to find a political viewpoint they all agree on.

It could take a while.

But bring up the USA PATRIOT Act -- a national law designed to fight terrorism that critics contend erodes basic civil liberties -- and they may start nodding in agreement.

Such is the case with the Boise {Idaho} Patriots, a group whose diverse members hope to keep the PATRIOT Act from being implemented in Idaho.

I Haven't Read The Article... Aug 3rd. at 5:53:38 pm EDT

by Priest Apostate (Manhattan, Kansas) - wc_xemail - Web

...due to the links being killed off. I can only say that in these times, I thank Bush for the stance that he's taken regarding our civil liberties. At first, I was strongly mortified about him winning the presidency, but because of his current actions, the American public is made aware of how our current form of government can be abused in the name of corporate/religious agendas.

Everytime he's called out by the American people for his lies to rationalize his actions to wage war...
Everytime he's bringing another method to rape the land, to pursue his insatiable appetite for money...
Everytime he's further muddling the separation between (his) church and state -- to further the plans of the Religious Right...
Everytime he's initialized one more step to creating a police state by harrassing common citizens all in the name of national security...
Everytime his cronies accuse those would criticize his actions as "being un-American"...

we are drawn to how far down the corruption spreads.

So, my hat's off to the man!

Lost Links Aug 3rd. at 3:33:10 pm EDT

This looked to be a very interesting article and one I had some not so middle of the road opinions about, but all links to Harktheherald.com have been lost and thus the full article is lost. I have been, of late, noticing some change in my political views, which at times has made life difficult with certain members of my family.
However, I feel we will see more of this as political events take us closer and closer to the socialist environment Russia just freed itself from. The bottom line is, for me at any length, any form of government is acceptable if it affords its citizens a measure of secure freedom. And it appears that both the Democrats and Republicans have both repeatly signed into law bills that limit our freedom, giving the government more control over our lives.
I really don't worry too much about the Patriot Act as I have nothing to hide and the body of that act allows the government to look into places they weren't allowed to before. So they find out I am pagan, so what, I have shared that fact with everyone in my goverment job anyway. So they spy on us when we do our rituals in the back yard or even in my living room. So What!. The Patriot Act is a Smoke Screen. There is a more important issue to concern us now.
I supported GW in the last election, as I am a conservative family man and hold dear those values that support that life style, but now GW is taking strong religious stances on political issues which would impinge on personal freedoms, which has caused some concern and regret. He is currently taking an xtian stand against homosexuality. And if he can take that stance, when will he revoke the federal recognition of Wicca?
At the same time, somewhere in California, as noted on the Free Republic website, a religious memorial is being erected in honor of transvestites and aids victims. I am abhorant of this in more that one way. First, no public funds should be spent to advocate one religion over another, even if it were to honor a religion to which I subscribed. Second, while AIDS has affected people through accidental exposure, the VAST majority have suffered because the of irresponsible use of sex and drugs. And I want my children to see these people being honored? Note: I didn't speak out against Homosexuality, a life style I have no problem with. I am speaking against the irresponsible use of sex in any form.
If I seem confused then you aren't too far from the truth. I love my country, I support my government, but things lately have been just too wierd. And it will probably get worse before it gets better. I remember posting an article calling for the unity of all pagans back in 1999 which was placed on the Witch Vox home page, and was taken off whcn I in embarrasment asked for its removal. Another regret. But more than ever, it is time.

The Great Uniter Leads Us Aug 2nd. at 1:29:55 pm EDT

Who else has ever got Germany AND France AND Russia all on the same team? It's never happened before in all of history! And now he's united widely different American political camps.

Of course I'd feel better about all this if I didn't all feel creepily like the buildup to World War II with us in the protagonist's role.....

A Good Start With Strange Bedfellows... Aug 2nd. at 12:51:14 pm EDT

We're finding that we have more in common as Americans than as mere consumers when our rights actually are in danger.

It's a good START...

Hey what if..........

What if George Bush is really enlightened and has been putting his policies in place in order to spark a freedom revival. What if he has been intentionally pushing the limits in order to cause the backlash. What if he's really trying to restore our basic freedoms, having seen how eroded they already were? What if he's actually sacrificing himself for all of us.

NAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
