Title: A WITCH FOR ALL SEASONS
Deanne Joy drives a minivan, not a broomstick.
She wishes she could twitch her nose and have the dishes washed. She's tried, but it doesn't work.
It doesn't work because she doesn't believe enough, she says.
Deanne Joy, 40, has known she is a witch for at least 25 years.
She dabbled with Catholicism and Buddhism but settled on witchcraft about 1982 - around the time a group of classmates at her high school on Chicago's North Side locked her in a car and tried to set it on fire.
She prefers not to discuss the incident, although the symbolism is not lost on her.
"I'm a witch, and they tried to burn me," she said. "There's a lot of prejudice out there against witches - it's like racism."

Why must people make generalizations such as this one: "They don't wear pointy hats, but they do wear a lot of black, she said, admitting she has a "98 percent black wardrobe." The idea that all Witches/Wiccan/Pagans wear predominantly black is a stereotype and one that I've become rather tired of.
So speak for yourself dear Dawn, not all of us wear a lot black.
