Suit Warned After Zion Rips Haunted House Permit

Author: Dan Moran Source: Suburban Chicago News (IL)

Title: DUNGEON IS DOOMED
Citing traffic and public safety concerns over putting a 19-day haunted house near 27th Street and Deborah Avenue, the City Council backed Mayor Lane Harrison Tuesday in rejecting a special-use permit for the Dungeon of Doom, which was looking to re-locate from the former Lake County Fairgrounds in Grayslake.
Dungeon co-owner Peter Koklamanis said he would speak with his attorney today to seek a court injunction allowing the permit, which was previously recommended by the city's Planning and Zoning Commission.
Clergy members have also lobbied against the proposal, with the council fielding a letter Tuesday signed by officials from the Christian Assembly of God, the Zion Police Department's Chaplain Program and others stating that they are "adamantly opposed to having this business relocate to our community ... This is an issue of right and wrong. This is a moral issue."

Support the Dungeon of Doom, who was refused the permit to operate within Zion! Call the American Civil Liberty Union 1-312-201-9740 and 1-312-201-9760 (fax) and tell them the Dungeon of Doom was wronged! WE WON'T BE ABLE TO OPEN WITHOUT THIS PERMIT!

This garbage happens every October when the fundie Xians try to boss around. Its their little bullying that makes most of the haunted houses setups turn bland and weak. Since most of the Halloween haunted house arrangements are built by groups such as the Jaycees and are subject to the city council, the Xians in their annual " war" against the "occult" and " Satan" do a little bullying "persuasion" at the city council level to prevent people actually having the option to enjoy what used to be a Halloween tradition.
And lets not forget the Xians have their "hell houses" ( which are BTW packaged deals sold by one group and not "independent" Xian productions) and their lame " trunk treats" so-called alternative.
This garbage has been going on since the mid 1980s. I am old enough to remember how fun haunted houses were before the fundie crackdowns. A friend of mine who helped build a recent one told me of how they had to remove a few items ( very non-occult ones, BTW) because some fundie spies were making a fuss.

I dont really see them stopping the dungeon of doom from having their haunted house. They'll probably just retaliate with a Hal-e-lu-yah house and get it over with.
Also I feel that the negative comments towards our fellow site members is a bit unneeded... We're all in this together guys =|

Is that there are some churches who do their OWN "haunted houses," chock full of unpleasant portrayals of abortion, drug use, etc. designed to scare people into believing they're going to hell if they don't suddenly become diehard "believers." Not to say that the Zion churches do this, but I'm sure they are aware of them.
As one person remarked in the "comments" section, if you have a problem with haunted houses, then DON'T GO. That simple.

I can't wait for this to go to the courts, either. Zion was obviously wrong in listening to a bunch of crackpot preachers in the first place, a lot like how a lot of Pagans would be wrong in listening to crackpot "reconstructionist" trolls who regularly vent via essays (like someone from a certain "whispering wood" does) .
