Catch an ancient solar light show at Central Riverside Park.
If you stand at the Solar Calendar at about 1:30 p.m., you can watch the sun illuminate a gem, causing it to glow intensely for about five minutes.
The occasion marks the summer solstice, the year's longest day and shortest night.
The Solar Calendar is Wichita's answer to Stonehenge, with stone pillars set in a circle and a central pillar that holds a lens for the sun to shine through.
"If you go to the park at 1:30, you will be awestruck," said Paula Peare, a member of the Wiccan community in Wichita. "The sun will be in a certain line and it will impress the socks off of you. It makes my heart happy."
