Fortuneteller Fee May Not Be In The Cards

Author: Dan Klepal Source: The Courier-Journal (KY)

Title: FORTUNETELLER FEE MAY NOT BE IN THE CARDS
Fortunetellers and clairvoyants don't need a crystal ball to know they'll probably have some extra cash next year.
Actually, they don't have to look any further than the agenda for tonight's Metro Council meeting.
Louisville's legislative body will begin talking about killing an ordinance that requires a $200 license fee and background check from fortunetellers, clairvoyants, soothsayers, palmists, phrenologists and spiritualists.
The council is going through a process of re-enacting or repealing laws that were on the books before the city and county government merged in 2003.

Aritimi Morgana (RotterdamJct/Schdy/Scotia, New York) - Email Me

IMHO, there are a lot of charlatans out there eager to make a quick buck off someone, especially among the New Age crowd. Have you ever looked at the back of a New Age/ Pagan mag and seen all the ads for psychics and fortunetellers? Oh, and the training programs to become a witch/wizard/Grand Poohbah/whatever in some trad you've never heard of? Whenever I see them, my scam radar goes off like the Fourth of July. I think it's wrong to take money from someone when you know you don't have a clairvoyant bone in your body, just good acting skills. To prey on the gullible, the grieving (in the case of a loved one passed on) , the foolish, just smacks of hypocrisy. About the only person I do Tarot readings for is my twin sister, and with her, I know I'm accurate. BTW, before everyone starts writing me nasty e-mails to tell me to shut my mouth on this topic, let me add that I don't advertise my skills as a fortuneteller because whatever ability I posess is limited. There are too many frauds out there, and I like the idea of issuing licenses; that way you know you're getting someone legit.
