Nature, Not Satan, Lies At The Core Of Paganism

Author: Becky Paskievich Source: Murray State News (KY)

Title: NATURE, NOT SATAN, LIES AT THE CORE OF PAGANISM
Although finding a pagan in Murray is difficult, clarifying misconceptions about the faith is even harder.
Michelle Dowell, junior from Louisville, Ky., said discovering her pagan faith was a process.
"In high school I started out being atheist, not knowing where I was going," she said.
A little research led her to Wicca, a division of Paganism, but she didn't restrict herself to that subset.
Allaboutspirituality.org, a site devoted to explaining various religions, defines pagans as "anyone involved in any religious act, practice or ceremony, which is not Christian."
Some define it simply as having no religion. Paganism celebrates the Earth, living creatures and nature, the site said.

"satan" doesn't lie at the core of Paganism.... "satan" is a CHRISTIAN CONSTRUCT that has nothing to do with the Pagan belief systems. He doesn't even exsist in the Pagan Path. They were sort of stating the obvious in the article, as good as it was. "Satan" was concocted by the fundies to scare people away from the Pagan/Wiccan ways and fill the church pews and the church coffers. Anyone who knows their history would know that. Loving the EarthMother doesn't take money, and thats why the xtians wanted the Pagan ways squashed.
Think about it
Love to all

I can see how there can be atheist pagans. I might even fit that description depending upon how you define it. I tend to view the gods as archetypes created by humans to enable us to better connect with the deeper mysteries of the world around us. I choose to remain agnostic on the question of creation and science has a strong influence on my thinking so I'm hesitant to really believe anything without repeatable proven results. On the other hand I feel that life is a beautiful gift and whether it was created by a goddess and or god by divine will or simply IS and continues to BE creative, it is wondrous and the mystery can remain a mystery without stopping my ability to appreciate or express my gratitude for this gift of life.

What a nicely done article this was! And yes, I've heard of Wiccans who are Atheistic. Basically, they believe in masculine and feminine energies without endowing them with myths, personalities, or human form.

Did that article say that some Pagans are atheists? *confused look* I'm not sure I've ever met a Pagan that believes there's no God/dess at all. I thought if you were an atheist you didn't follow any spiritual path because you didn't believe in that sort of thing.
Am I wrong?
