Lawmakers Frustrated Ten Commandments Monument Still Not Back

Author: Roger Alford, Associated Press Source: Kentucky.com

Title: LAWMAKERS FRUSTRATED TEN COMMANDMENTS MONUMENT STILL NOT BACK
Lawmakers who rushed to pass a measure that allows a Ten Commandments monument to be displayed at the Capitol before last year's election now are expressing frustration that their plan still hasn't been carried out.
"The General Assembly spoke on this issue," said state Rep. Stan Lee, R-Lexington. "The governor signed the bill. Whoever is charged with doing this needs to be working post haste."
Stymied by a federal court judge, Kentucky officials have been unable to return the 6-foot-tall granite monument to the Capitol lawn.
Tom Self, an attorney for the Kentucky Justice Cabinet, said the monument can't be brought back until U.S. District Judge Joseph Hood is convinced it isn't being done as an endorsement of religion as the American Civil Liberties Union contends.

The first settlers here were Christian, and a majority of the surviving colonies were a vast majority Christian. To claim that the ten commandments and other Judeo-christian philosophy DIDN'T influence the founding fathers and subsequent lawmakers is a laughable claim, regardless of who makes it.
Thomas Jefferson once said something about all men being equal and some such...didn't stop him from owning slaves.
Founding fathers are not exempt from being silly.

It's people like this that make me wish the south won their succession. That way all the christians could have their own little country to run into the ground and get the heck out of America.

but this country was in no way "founded" on Xianity. And even then, Jesus gave only three commandments: faith, hope and love; with which this issue is completely DEVOID of. Just people who are driven by mythology as facts and devoid of reason.

Like it or not, people, our nation was founded as a Christian one.
THAT'S the historical significance. It wasn't founded as a hindu nation, a Muslim one, or a Wiccan one. Hell, by the time the Rede got big, we'd been here for 150 years.
People talk about equality for religions: Hammurabi, Muhammad, and Moses stand side by side on the Supreme court building. No one ever mentions that, though.
Let them have the stone slabs. 'Thou shalt not kill' isn't that bad of a rule to live by, anyway.

that they want to display something from OLD Testament to promote a Christian religion. Wouldn't it be more reasonable to put up something from the NEW Testament if they wanted to promote Christianity? Oh wait... I said "reasonable", so the answer was automatically "no" from there, wasn't it?
I would die laughing if they finally got all of those darn 10 commandment monuments up all over the place and in all of those places there was a huge surge of people taking up Judaism. How fast do you think it'd take them to pull them all down? An Hour? Less? (And after all that hard work and time getting them up too lol) .

"Early last year, lawmakers overwhelmingly approved legislation that called not only for the commandments to be put back on the Capitol grounds, but also for the posting of "In God We Trust" on the wall above the dais in the House and Senate chambers."
The fact they also want "In God We Trust" tells me that they also view the Ten Commandments as religiously important. Hence, it should not be allowed.
It is obvious that Christians want the thing there to promote their religion... they don't give a rat's ass about any historical significance.
This is simply one more attempt at creating a Christian nation. If you want to promote something, what do you do? Advertise of course.

Isn't it funny that this monument is supposed to be part of an historical memorial garden and they can't find any other things to put in it? Does this mean that the 10 commandments was the only thing intended for the garden?
What is wrong with it where it is - at the Eagles, on full public display (on private property) . If they want people to see it, people are seeing it now. If what they want is to make a public endorsement of the preferred religion of the government then they have to move it back to government property - which is unconstitutional and appears to be making them very unhappy.

The key phrase here seems to be- "No one can tell us how to worship!" Which make them come off like whiny little kids. Of course, they tout "religious freedom", but posting that granite block -and the fact that they actually rushed that vote indicates to me that the ONLY religious freedom they are espousing -is their own- and they are in a hurry to post that piece of prideful rock-before they have to attend services to pray for the next elections and find out if more than a few of the voters feel the same way they do. One thing is certain--putting up a rock espousing the commandments-or any other biblical references or frequently being seen going to church- has never in any way insured the honesty or the fidelity of any politician who did so. If they aren't to begin with-no rock will make it so.

Now if they can proof its historical.. then maybe they can put it up..
A normal swastika is historical.. been found up to 35000 years ago.
Can their monument be likewise proven?
and even it it could.. wouldnt it be reall small.. as I have read the story and it said that moses carried down the list off a mountain. Wouldnt that mean they are light weigh. Unless the guy was super man .. it wasnt even close to the size they want
Why do they want it in the first place
and just because people pass laws to allow something doesnt mean its legal
