Ky. Ten Commandments Display Upheld

Author: Samira Jafari, The Associated Press Source: Washington Post

Title: KY. TEN COMMANDMENTS DISPLAY UPHELD
A display of the Ten Commandments at an eastern Kentucky courthouse does not violate the Constitution, but a lawsuit challenging a similar display in another county can proceed, a federal judge has ruled.
The Ten Commandments display at the Rowan County Fiscal Court, part of an exhibit on the foundations of American law and government, "does not have the effect of endorsing religion," U.S. District Judge Karl Forester said in a ruling released Wednesday.

Chronos (Frankfort, Kentucky) - Email Me

Eastern Ky is a whole another world. When I first moved to this state I was located in Eastern Ky near Pikeville. I was 18 at the time and I have heard of certain states being in the “Bible Belt”, but this section took it over the limits. Even though it was 3 months, it was a long 3 months and I was asked more then once by a few customers “What’s your parents name? I bet I know them from church.” Other parts of the state is less severe as far as the Bible Belt mentality, but still a majority of the population are god fearing people. I’ve had to argue a couple of times on why the United States wasn’t originally “A Nation Under God”, when the US Mint was thinking of excluding that phrase from one of the coins. So hearing about this story is not a surprise. I hate majority rule.

.....fine, great.......let's all get ourselves together and demand that the Wiccan Rede be hung up next to it as well. Why not all of them? Every single faith, all of them; without reservation, to prove that religious freedoms are truly free here. Not just the so-called "one". *sighs* More junk to really tick off the Free Thinkers, that's all......maybe one day my dream that ALL faiths are represented in a courthouse will come to light.......and maybe cats will fly too......... Brightest Blessings to all!! Elwin Shadowstrider ) O (

as long as you include the Constitution with it and label it a "historic display". However, the intent remains the same-to promote religious intent by way of loophole. I feel it should all come down, even though the Constitution has far more right to hang in a courthouse than absolutely anything from a bible. Better nothing hang there than to allow religion to poke its nose in secular matters.

Lawyers and accountants are the greatest nitpickers in the world. The difference between displaying the 10 commandments by themselves and displaying them with multiple other "historic" law-influencing documents is tremendous to any lawyer - and to the courts. Their reason for wanting to display them has not really changed but they went from "promoting religion" to including a religious "document" as a part of the history of the legal system. Which, in fact, it is. Back door, end run, call it what you like but they did change from an illegal display to a legal one just like magic.

Read that sentence.
Now read it again.
One more time please.
If by now you don't see anything wrong with said sentence, please get out of the gene pool.
