Taking The History Of Halloween To Heart

Author: Karen Smith, Herald-Leader Source: Kentucky.com

Title: TAKING THE HISTORY OF HALLOWEEN TO HEART
This year, I wondered whether Halloween would be a trick or a treat for me and my children. When they were younger, it was, as far as I was concerned, a treat.
I thought it was great fun to get them dressed up in cute costumes and transform them into pint-size Elvises, pirates, princesses or genies.
We would scour the neighborhood for an hour or so and fill up our plastic pumpkins with delicious candy.
When we returned home, I would, of course, confiscate "potentially tainted" chocolates. Then, I would sacrifice by eating the chocolates, saving the kids from a horrible fate.
The evening always seemed so harmless. But was it?
Lately I have pondered this question, now that my children are older and their costume choices have gone from cute to "evil" -- zombies and dead cheerleaders.
It gives me the creeps.
But that isn't the only reason I have started questioning the holiday that has strong roots in paganism.

Moonlight Wolf (Bradford, England) - Email Me

She only started this whole 'get the kids out of Halloween' when she went to that chuuch and heard a sermon about Satan's forces and then assumed that anything that is not Christian is evil. There's that binary opposition thing again that oversimplifies things and lays waste to the mind.
Oh well, at least her kids had the sense to set her straight.

her kids have some brains.
I was half tempted to email her and ask her if she was also going to quit celebrating Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter since they are all also based on earlier Pagan beliefs .

An ill-informed piece of s**t from an ill-informed piece of s**t fundie in the Deep South. Bringing the buy-bull into this aptly-misnamed "faith and values" article killed the bimbo's credibility right off the bat.

I'm not going to touch this one, because I know I have nothing nice to say. All i'm going to say is that , "Oh!... theres another fundy that walked out of the closet."
