They may sound like attractions at a Halloween carnival, but some enterprising students of the supernatural have found ways to make delving into the paranormal pay. For them, it's just business as usual.
In 1996, Keith Age founded the Louisville Ghost Hunters Society to investigate reports of hauntings. The group has about 100 active local members, who function as "evidence gatherers" and are able to find nonsupernatural explanations for 99 percent of ghost reports, Age says, despite the fears (or hopes) of the "haunted."
"A lot of times it's nerves and -- how should I say this to be nice -- wishful thinking," he says. But Age is always looking for "that 1 percent that's haunted," even though there is no payment involved in the long hours spent on investigations.
