Foster Parents Who Attended Service With Snakes Sue Over License

Author: AP Source: WAVE 3 TV (KY)

Title: FOSTER PARENTS WHO ATTENDED SERVICE WITH SNAKES SUE OVER LICENSE
A southeastern Kentucky couple who say they refused to agree not to attend snake-handling religious services have sued a foster-care agency after their license was revoked.
Attorney Melissa Dixon wouldn't say whether her clients have handled snakes before, but she says Jason and Tammy Barrett of Laurel County have never taken their foster children to the services.

Lady Arrian (Cincinnati, Ohio) - Email Me

Lifeway, they have such a "sterling" reputation....
Thinks back to the whole Marcus Fiesel murder case. And who fostered that little boy to the Carrol's, that's right, it was Lifeway.

Mysteries Child (Garfield, Arkansas) - Email Me

If they didn't take the kids, I don't see why there should be an issue.
I'd be a little concerned about them dropping dead of a snakebite and leaving the kids to be shuffled around again...
...but that's on a level with being concerned that a foster parent will be participating in, say, a sweat-lodge ceremony that goes awry, leaving the kids to be shuffled around again.
Speaking of being shuffled around again...
...that's exactly what's happening anyway.
OK, I think playing with venomous snakes to display faith in the providence of God is more than a little silly...
...but people do what they do.
Foster parents should not be required to lead mainstream, whitebread lives. They shouldn't have to be straight, there shouldn't have to be two (though even kids who haven't been traumatized are enough of a handful to demand the attentions of more than one healthy, responsible adult) , and they shouldn't have to express whatever faith they have (if any) in traditional services only.
Leaves me to wonder, as I often do, if *other* issues aren't behind the decision to remove the children and revoke the license.
