ACLU Opposes Public Funds To Louisiana Churches

Author: The Times Picayune   Source: nola.com (blog)

Title: ACLU OPPOSES PUBLIC FUNDS TO LOUISIANA CHURCHES

The American Civil Liberties Union filed suit in federal court here Monday to stop the state of Louisiana from donating taxpayer money to two churches.

Joined in the case by its Louisiana affiliate, the ACLU contends that the state's general appropriations bill, HB1, signed into law last month by Gov. Kathleen Blanco, unconstitutionally directs $100,000 in public funds to the Stonewall Baptist Church in Bossier City and $20,000 in public funds to Shreveport Christian Church.

I find myself in agreement with the ACLU. These two churches are not the only ones getting money from the rest of us taxpayers. Louisiana had a 30 plus Billion dollar budget this year. That's right, 30 billion with a B. We have lost a lot of our population and the people in control of our government Added more gov't jobs--- the waste and incomptenance is unbelievable..

Hopefully, in the elections this fall, the taxpayers here will finally get rid of the "good ol' boy network" that has held my state back. The worst offenders are ALL liberal Democrats with a few RINO Republicans.

Burn a candle for all of us here in Louisiana and maybe we WILL make a change this year.

Blessed Be

The article was not very complete. They asked the question of why those 2 churches were given money but did not print any replies from the granting agencies. They probably cannot justify the money but the ACLU just runs in screaming without full disclosure of the facts.

Personally I believe there should be better accountability in government.

one: the ACLU did properly interpret the law, there is the separation of church and state, to give monies to churches and not all churches is flat wrong. Both of the churches were xtian, I saw no diversity here, no support to any other except the xtian churches. The ACLU by filing a lawsuit did just what our judicial system is for, allow the judges to properly interpret the law, not local political bodies.
Two: some of the responses after the article were vastly amusing, some even quite illiterate. blacknola was the one I got the biggest laugh out of, makes me wonder just where that person was raised, and how. Ah, well, it was a great laugh reading the responses, more than reading the article itself......
Brightest Blessings!!

I had more fun reading the comments, especially from the obviously uneducated, hate-filled "blacknola".
