Hearth To Hearth: Hailing Halloween

Author: Donna Tavano   Source: Cape Cod Chronicle

Title: HEARTH TO HEARTH: HAILING HALLOWEEN

For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved Halloween. My senses long for the annual assault by orange and black crepe paper, sweet confections, and spooky, unearthly wailing. I’m not alone; Halloween is now considered one of highest grossing and most popular holidays.

Perhaps people love Halloween because it occurs in autumn which, itself, is such an alluring season. The air is often balmy, but can change in the snap of a twig from “dog-days of summer” steamy to hurricane horror show. September’s foliage begins without fanfare as the green which has been hanging around since spring; kind of a been there, done that backdrop.

Well written.

It's also mine and my wife's favorite Holiday for the obvious reason. But also our birthdays are close to it. Mine's October 7th and hers is November 1st.

I have always loved this holiday far more than any other-and candy for trick-or-treaters is cheaper than buying presents for the family at christmas.

I've long thought that the free-wheeling fantwasy factor was only a secondary motive, and the real reason Halloween has become so popular with mainstream culture is that it's the only holiday wHere you're not expected to crowd all your relatives in one house and feed them unTIL they'RE stupider than usual!

My apologies!
