Mega Millions Winner To Invest

Author: Michele Wojciechowski   Source: timesheraldnews.com

Title: MEGA MILLIONS WINNER TO INVEST

When Ellwood “Bunky” Bartlett discovered that he was one of four winners of the Mega Millions $330 million prize, he did what a lot of people would do – he bought a new car.

So was it a Mercedes-Benz? A Rolls-Royce? A Lamborghini?

Nope. Bartlett purchased a brand new Ford Explorer.

“I’m not glitzy,” says Bartlett.

This down-to-earth, unassuming guy swears that his cut (of a lump sum payment after taxes and giving money to specific family members) of $26 million won’t change him.

Bartlett, a self-employed accountant, has decided that he will invest some money in various business ventures, including a real estate business.

With some of the money, he will also be investing in Mystickal Voyage, a New Age shop located on Walther Boulevard in the Food Lion shopping center in Nottingham.

Suggestions And Complaints Likely Sep 8th. at 12:55:55 pm EDT

Christopher Blackwell (Deming, New Mexico) - Email Me

AnnieBW,

I left my suggestion with him on another forum, the usual staying centered, balanced, and following gut feeling advice.

Now will come the rush of suggestions of what to do with the money and the complaints about what he doesn't do with his money. That is one of the hard parts of sudden wealth. I would not wish that on anyone.

He seems to be very down to earth and that may be what does him the most good. I wish him the best and hope that he as fun, or backs off and takes a break whenever it stops becoming fun. It is pretty much a one time gift but it will open up the possibility of a lot of choices.

Now let see, I wonder if I should go out and buy a lottery ticket? Naw, if too many of us Wiccans win the lottery someone will complain about us taking unfair advantage and probably claim we have sold our souls to Satan. Wait they already say that. [Grin] Plus I like my privacy.

Go Bunky, go!

He's Got A Good Accountant And Lawyer Sep 7th. at 9:26:39 pm EDT

AnnieBW (Laurel, Maryland) - Email Me

I'm a friend of Bunky's, and was at the party yesterday. He seems to have things very much under control. He's got a good accountant who has prior experience with a lottery winner, and at least one lawyer. Besides, he thinks it's hysterical that people are betting on him to lose it all - he actually wants to increase his money!

As for setting up a community center - would you really want one person to have controlling interest in one? I mean, he who has the gold makes the rules. If that person gets pissed off, what would happen to the community center? I mean, dreaming about what one would do with all of that money is great. But, I'm seeing close up what is really involved with making the decisions. It's not as easy as it sounds.

... it may change his priorities on how he spends his cash. He's speaking a good game though. I wish I had the money to open a community center. I'd add a martial arts school and a green earth store to mine. Maybe build my own eco friendly building for it... Ah, dreams.

Millions or not, I'd have been investing in a vehicle that wasn't a gas hog. I know it isn't true that all Pagans have an environmental awareness about them but you'd think that with such an amount of money he might have at least considered a hybrid vehicle.
Simply because you can afford to pay $3+ and fill up your vehicle doesn't mean that you should forget about the impact that vehicle makes on the area in which you live and the consumption of those fossil fuels.

Hope He Ends Up Better Than Others Sep 7th. at 1:19:17 pm EDT

Mars (brooklyn, New York) - Email Me

a while back i remember reading an article by someone who followed up mega lottery winners many year after they won. one of the people in the article was "Curtis"-- for those who remember his from the NY Lotto commercials in the early 70s I think it was (Curtis and some other mega winner pull up in a stretch limo to a sidewalk hot dog vendor and order hot dogs. Curtis admonishes the hotdog man "an' don' fuget da onyuns!")

everybody in the article lost all their millions, and some of them their relationships with others. people who they never even knew they were related to came out of the woodwork begging for some help. others became victims of unsrupulous investment schemes. others became indolent with their new wealth and went through it like a drunken sailor. others seem to lose their sense of purpose in life and became depressed.

i think the story of king midas is a good allegory for this.

good he's investing it in his business. hope things turn out well.
