Church Celebrates Groundhog Day In A Unique Way

Author: Pamela Rigaux Source: Frederick News-Post (MD)

Title: CHURCH CELEBRATES GROUNDHOG DAY IN A UNIQUE WAY
Cosette Blackmer lit the directional candles that would allow six members of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation to call in the spirits Saturday.
"Hail to the spirit of air, spirit of East," she said, as another member of the group, Covenant of the Unitarian Universalist, or Cuups, lit a candle on the east side of a circular table.
The Cuups identify with pagan beliefs, an Earth-centered theology. They follow the rhythm of the sun, the moon and the seasons of the year.

I love that they were apparently celebrating "Groundhog Day". I know that it's a very important time in *MY* spiritual path.
I can't believe the reporter didn't bother to point out that they actually call it Imbolg (or a variation) . Possibly poor editing??
Also, that bit about white sage at the end was a little nonsequitor. It didn't fit with the rest of the article at all! Describe the whole thing or don't describe it.

I had a Brid doll and a little toy groundhog next to her, my mother brought the one inch groundhog for me.

I didn't know Groundhog Day was an official sabbat nowadays! I need to take down that statue of Brid and replace it with a miniature Punxsutawney immediately.
Seriously, I don't know if this CUUPS group just didn't tell the reporter, or if she left it out.... but a sentence stating that there's a bit more significance to February 2 beyond it being a cross-quarter day, and a time to startle bewildered groundhogs, would have helped the quality of that article quite a bit.
