County Removes 'Culture Statement'

Author: Mike Connell   Source: Times Herald (MI)

Title: COUNTY REMOVES 'CULTURE STATEMENT'

After receiving a complaint from a local resident, St. Clair County has deleted its official "Culture Statement" from its Web site.

"It has been there for I don't know how many years," county Administrator Shaun Groden said. "When I first read it, my thought was that it was a lot of fluff, but that it didn't hurt anyone."

He said the county board reviewed the statement after hearing from Don Wilkie, a Marysville businessman, who described it as being ridiculous to the point of embarrassment.

Wilkie said he still has concerns and plans to raise them at Wednesday's meeting of the county board.

Last week, in an e-mail to Groden, he expressed concern about a calendar of religious celebrations appearing on the county's Web site.

"Did you know that on our county Web site is a calendar of events that the CDIC celebrates and considers special?" he asked. "Among these are a Wiccan celebration, Wiccan being witchcraft, and the League of United Latin Citizens, who advocate bilingual education and amnesty for illegal aliens. I think if the citizens of this county were asked, they would overwhelmingly reject the positions of these two groups. There are other examples, but this should suffice to show the political nature of the CDIC."

Kudos To Don Wilkie Nov 7th. at 12:45:00 pm EST

I found the site.

Don Wilkie was justifiably upset, by the rather high handed discrimination of the County Commissioners, trying to legislate against the freedoms we hold sacred. He's a fine example that, if you can't fight City Hall, they usually capitulate in the face of utter destruction.

"In our community, members easily and naturally attune to what is best for themselves and the group. When they sense an imbalance, they give immediate attention and clear feedback to the others - just as the brain, heart and other organs of the body - enabling each to make whatever adjustments are needed to bring the system back in balance. Every member knows how to lead, follow, listen, speak from the heart and mediate conflicts and performs these functions spontaneously whenever a situation calls for them."

The above statement makes no more sense, than the Preacher who seeks to speak for all Wiccans. It would make a better Proffession, for an "Order of Communal Ministry," but such an order should first be warned of the basis of Civilization, that Community will always be in ballance with Integrity. It's as easy to miss, however, as a statement that "Every Cell is a White Corpuscule," which nobody would believe was even made.

Don Wilkie did the only Christian Thing, and such initiative is rather rare.

Government Nov 7th. at 11:26:07 am EST

I don't know what personal bias the man may have had or not, but he is correct that political causes (popular with us or not) have no place as part of the Municipal, State, or Federal government. "Diversity" is a politically correct concept whose merits are many. It does not, however, belong on the government bill. Holidays, regardless of whose, do not belong on the government calendar. Diversity should come from the bottom up, i.e. the people, not from the top down, i.e. the government.

Words have power. Anyone familiar with positive affirmations will quickly recognize the "Culture Statement" as being one. Read not as a statement but rather as a suggestion for creating a positive reality it appears the author was trying to cause a change of mental attitude within the community by "acting as if" with this statement. Here is the Culture Statement again with added text in square brackets:

"In [my mind's eye I see] our community members easily and naturally attune to what is best for themselves and the group.
When they sense an imbalance [I see them giving] immediate attention and clear feedback to the others - just as the brain, heart and other organs of the body - enabling each to make whatever adjustments are needed to bring the system back in balance.
[In this envisioned community e]very member [is gifted with skills that enable them to] know how to lead, follow, listen, speak from the heart and mediate conflicts. [They readily] perform these functions spontaneously whenever a situation calls for them."

Words have power. Unfortunately the statement was poorly worded and the effect was to cause this man to be empowered to change the statement itself (in this case to delete it) . The man was in fact "sensing an imbalance" and "giving immediate attention and feedback", he was "enabled to make adjustments" and he obviously "knew how to lead" and "speak from the heart" even if his heart is biased. He "readily performed these functions".

To have worked better the statement needed to include a directional provision to the effect that all actions by members of the community would be for the mutual improvement of everyone's life. Without that the affirmative energy was vulnerable to manipulation by each person's personal agenda, such as this man's. He may not know it but allowing such powerful energy to fill the minds of an entire community with no directional guidance would have created chaos as each person began to tap into that energy for personal politics.

So in a sense he did exactly what the affirmation required, he made "whatever adjustments [were] needed to bring the system back in balance".

So The Authors Position Is........ Nov 6th. at 10:02:14 pm EST

............that he disagrees with multi-culturalism?

He wants Wiccan holidays and Holidays for Latinos, appartently among others, taken out because...............
...................."I think if the citizens of this county were asked, they would overwhelmingly reject the positions of these two groups"............

So the good citizens would reject Freedom of Religion and taking pride in a persons Heritage?

Wow that's some flowery prose to cover up being a BIGOT! And that's exactly what this guy is, a BIGOT both religiously and ethnically.
Too bad someone didn't call him out on that.
