Poetry Anthology Resounds With The Voices Of Women Long Silent

Title: POETRY ANTHOLOGY RESOUNDS WITH THE VOICES OF WOMEN LONG SILENT
"To Sing Along the Way: Minnesota Women Poets From Pre-Territorial Days to the Present" (New Rivers Press, $17.95) is the first comprehensive anthology showcasing the work of more than 100 poets who have published books. But this is more than a poetry collection; it's also a document revealing 150 years of the lives and concerns of Midwestern women.
The anthology is a labor of love for Tammaro and his fellow poets and co-editors: Joyce Sutphen, who teaches literature and creative writing at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, and Connie Waneck, who works at the Duluth Public Library.
"To Sing Along the Way" begins with Ojibwe Love-charm Songs: "What are you saying to me?/I am arrayed like the roses /And beautiful as they."
It concludes with "Keys" by young Hmong community activist May M. Lee: "My mother doesn't think I should have keys,/but my brother Xin, who is three years younger than me, has keys./ He gets to come home whenever he wants to./But I … I must knock …"
