Judge Rules That 'The Impaler' Will Stand Trial

Author: Janice Gregorson   Source: Post-Bulletin (MN)

Title: JUDGE RULES THAT 'THE IMPALER' WILL STAND TRIAL

A district judge has denied a motion to dismiss criminal charges against a man who calls himself "The Impaler" and is accused of sending harassing e-mails to a Rochester teenager in 2007.

Olmsted District Judge Joseph Chase said it is "fair and reasonable" that John Albert Sharkey stand trial on the charges.

Sharkey, 44, is charged with one count of felony harassment and two counts of misdemeanor coercion.

Sharkey, who ran for Minnesota governor in 2006 under the Vampyres, Witches and Pagans party banner, notified the court he is no longer being represented by [defense attorney Rick] Smith or the public defender's office.

A Second (and Third) Thought.... Apr 3rd. at 4:55:57 am EDT

nasionnaich (Stanchfield, Minnesota) - Email Me

I've been thinking about this "Vampiric Pagan/Witch" thing Sharkey has been claiming that he's into.... Now that he's been arrested and is due to go on trial for his predatory ways concerning young girls, I would not be at all surprised if he were to "find the light" and willingly "convert" to Christianity.

Actually, I'm willing to bet that he's been posing as a "Pagan/Witch" all along, just so he could do such a thing. That, or he's the type who will allow himself to be bought off for "the right price" -- meaning his political "career". Wait -- those two possibilities actually mesh together quite well...........

And I am not really mean, that was a typo, which could not be corrected because of the lack of an editing feature here in the comments section. (yes, this is a reference to my previous posting on this article about Mr. Sharkey, where I mistakenly typed in "I'm mean,...". it was supposed to read "I mean,...." - I was going to write something else, then changed my mind and forgot about the "I'm".)

Path Is Not The Issue Apr 2nd. at 11:53:15 pm EDT

Moon Panther (Bisbee, Arizona) - Email Me - Web

His path is not the issue here. The fact that he is using the guise of being of this path to lure 15 year old females into internet affairs and eventually physical relationships and probably much worse abuses is the issue.

I'm tired of preditors of this type using any religion or path to lure in their prey.

Of course this makes it much worse to the general public and mainstream religions are pointing at him and putting us all under his umbrella as well. Makes it darn hard to educate others about what are paths are really about.

Sending threatening/abusive emails is against the law, thank the gods that is as far as it went. If I'm not mistaken it is now a federal offense. Hopefully, the judge can find a deep dark place under the jail, should suit him.

Singing Bear (Minneapolis, Minnesota) - Email Me

As a Minnesotan and a member of the Pagan / Wiccan Community here I wish this guy and his 15 Minutes were done.
We have a thriving community of ethical and well intended religious people practicing and Sharkey gives us all a black eye.
Harmony Tribe, The Upper Midwest Pagan Alliance, and the newly opened Sacred Paths Center and this is the only headline the Pagan Community Generates.
It is really tragic.

I think everybody is rolling their eyes at this. Even the Vampiric community is wishing that this guy would crawl back under the rock he came out from.

This Is Good, Actually Apr 1st. at 12:30:30 am EDT

I'm not at all surprised that Sharkey has to stand trial for his pedophiliac activities. ("Pedophiliac", is that a real word?) I'm mean, look at how the eedjit dresses: Jeans, t-shirt -- and chintzy second-hand costume-shop "cape".

He has done more than give Paganism and Wicca black eyes. He has put Minnesota in the spotlight -- not as a respected politician (is there really such a thing?) , but as a poor imitation of a Clown.

Why should that matter to me? Look at where I live.

bigcat (peoria, Illinois) - Email Me

He was fairly unstable to begin with. And the fact that he was pursuing a relationship online with an underage girl only cinches it.

He's a creepier-that-usual version of an exhibitionist. He'll call himself whatever has the most shock-and-titillation value; at the moment that's vampire, however he wants to spell it. If we'd all stop broadcasting his name & thus feeding his fantasy, he'd crawl back under his rock.

Damn typos...this is what I get for getting too little sleep.

Do a Google search for "jonathan the impaler sharkey interview" and read for yourself. He could have been best described as a "middle of the road" candidate.

I changed up several things from the original.

Sharkey's actually pretty brilliant. If only he hadd control his emotions a bit, he may have been a viable political candidate.

By the way, contrary to the popular beliefs of intentionally-misinformed sheeple, "goth" and "vampirism" can exist as separate paths. I'm nearly 31 years old and consider myself goth without being a vampire (even though I've been to enough vampire-themed parties in NYC to make people think otherwise, but hey, vampires throw the best parties) . To the idiots out there who seem to think that "goth" and "vampires" are just for high-school-age emo kids and "creeps who do something crazy while pretending to be Dracula," I suggest reading the following or STFU:

I'm Really Tired.. Mar 31st. at 3:10:43 pm EDT

Fuil Fitheach Sian (Missoula, Montana) - Email Me

..of people from the "vampire" subculture linking up to Paganism and Wicca. If they want to hang out and pretend to be Dracula, great, but I'm tired of seeing the community having to come in to defend itself every time somebody in a clique that's logically predisposed to attract creeps does something crazy.

Sounds like mental and emotional problems are at play here, certainly far more so than paganism in any way.

Question: what kind of email address registration requires a Social Security Number?
