Honoring Pagan Fallen On Memorial Day

Author: Murphy   Source: The Examiner

Title: HONORING PAGAN FALLEN ON MEMORIAL DAY

Sgt. Jason A. Schumann was killed May 19, 2007 when a bomb exploded near his vehicle in Ad Diwaniyah, Iraq. He is bured at Fort Snelling cemetery, where his headstone is marked with a pentacle. Sgt. Schumann was a Pagan.

The right for Pagans soldiers and veterans to have the pentacle inscribed on their headstones and memorials was one fought for very hard by Pagan communities throughout the country over the course of several years. Instigated by Veterans' Affairs refusal to grant the late Sgt. Patrick Stewart a pentacle on his grave marker after he was shot down in Afghanistan, his widow, Roberta Stewart, and Circle Sanctuary's Lady Liberty League spearheaded an anti-discrimination action against the VA. Pagan communities nationwide joined the fight, and this issue was the formative one that brought together the Upper Midwest Pagan Alliance (UMPA) here in the Twin Cities.

Memorial Day May 25th. at 1:49:20 pm EDT

LadyWolf48 (Alameda, California) - Email Me

My father, the Marine, and others put their lives on the line every day to ensure ALL Americans are free to live and worship. This day and all days we should honor them and the sacrifice they are willing to give us.

My parents always supported and encouraged me to follow my own religious path. They watched and asked questions for every 'new religion' I studied but never ever condemned me. When I finally chose my path, it was honored. That's the definition of freedom of religion.

Thank You to all who serve so that I and others can worship and follow our own paths..

Orion 6Xray (Park City, Kentucky) - Email Me

You learn to live again.

The gift of life was given to me several times.

First by my creators, my mother and father.

The second time by five men who layed down thier lives not in defense of this country but out of love and defense of freinds. For that is truely what we fight for, when the question must be ansewered at the end of the day, the the brother and sister to our left and right.

8 July 2004 still haunts my memories and Iraq itself has caused my marriage to fall apart.

Yet as it has been said before, the lucky ones get to go home and complain about it.

Those who fell that day and those who fell later are burnt into my mind and will never be forgotten. I hope my life will be a great tribute for you and that I do you proud.

And to all who still serve in that hell and the hell in Afgahnastan, you are not alone in the dark and you are not forgotten.

Finally to the innocent souls that fell either by my hand or by my commrads hands, forgive us we did not mean the things we did.
