Mo. Ordered To Issue 'Choose Life' License Plates

Author: The Associated Press Source: First Amendment Center

Title: MO. ORDERED TO ISSUE 'CHOOSE LIFE' LICENSE PLATES
A federal judge ruled yesterday that Missouri must issue a new specialty license plate that reads “Choose Life.”
The Alliance Defense Fund sued in June 2006 on behalf of Choose Life of Missouri and the group’s president. The suit alleged lawmakers violated free-speech, due-process and equal-protection rights by rejecting Choose Life’s application for the specialty plate while approving other proposals.
The suit named as defendants Department of Revenue Director Trish Vincent and the 14 members of a joint House and Senate Transportation Committee, which rejected the application after two abortion-rights members objected without giving a reason.
For a new specialty plate to be approved, no committee members can oppose it. A formal objection from two senators or five House members before a vote also kills it.

...that say, "Show me your foster kids!!"
I will stand and fight for safe, legal abortion.
I will stand longer and fight harder to make a world where abortion is no longer viewed as a necessity.
I would like to see all those who would make abortion illegal again, ultimately only succeeding in driving us back to knitting needles and coat hangers, take up the same battle:
To make a world where parents don't desert the children they've created.
To make a world where a parent doesn't have to choose between keeping the utilities on and buying food.
To make a world where parents know that creating a baby, having a baby, and either raising it or giving it to someone who can and will raise it isn't the end of their lives.

The text has to fit on the plate, it can't be too long, but still...
"END THE IRAQ WAR"
"MY BODY MY CHOICE"
"IMPEACH BUSH NOW"
We may yet see specialty plates eliminated. I never liked the silly things anyway...

"Choose Life", indeed... Only a Fool would consciously choose death!
Oh, they mean "Choose Life For Your Baby"? Well, again, only a Fool would choose to have their baby die.
Wait, you mean it's the Radical Militant Christian Religious Right-Wing But-Job "Choose Life", where only they get to decide what is allowed? Well, that's different. In that case, only a Fool would choose to display those license plates!
I wonder, would they allow a "Learn To Think For Yourself" license plate? It might have to be shortened up a bit.....

To all children, I love you, born, unborn and yet to be conceived There is no good answer and while we must keep abortion safe and legal we must be educated about responsibility. Just in case you haven't read my profile I'm prolife. Through education of responsibility for one’s own actions we would have no need for abortions. If a crime has been committed then file the police report (rape kits are optional) then do as you will no one should begrudge you, I won’t and I will defend your decision. I do not find any contradiction within the tenants my faith (Wicca) and my stance on this subject. We believe we have to take responsibility for our actions and our actions come with re-actions correct? A man and woman have unprotected, consensual sex both are providing biological material for the conception of a child. We teach/learn this in school. I believe that both should know each other well enough to want to raise a child together before having consensual sex. The pill, condoms, even vasectomies are not 100%. Now they don’t need to get married, but they need to be ready to spend 18 years in a relationship of some type. A fetus is not a tumor that you just cut out to save a life. A fetus is changer of lives that two people chose to create thus change their lifesyle. Just food for thought. Puts on fire proof clothing, soaks self in water, arms fire hose.

because it takes a bit of skill to make a plate that is readable at a distance. A few years ago VA offered an 'autumn' plate that had orange/red/yellow leaves scattered across the background. Within 2 months they'd been pulled off the road and redesigned because (even tho they had black lettering) they couldn't be read at more than a few feet away. The patterns of the leaves created an optical illusion that distorted the lettering. Crooks would have loved them! And I hate to say this but I agree with the ruling. Equal treatment for all..including the KKK, churches and synagogues, pro-choicers, witches, frat boys, Masons, the Exalted Order of Water Buffalo, and any other organization that meets the application criteria of course!

it makes me wonder why we cant simply upload our own plate backgrounds? 300dpi of course! ;)
Nowadays, people can have their own background designs on credit cards and even design their own postage stamps, so it seems to me that plate backgrounds shouldn't be too far off! If anything, it would certainly negate this problem altogether. Probably would have to have certain criteria involved, so people would know what state the plates come from, like "ILLINOIS" and "Land of Lincoln" must be present for Chicagoans like myself. That, and understandably, no foul language. Perhaps even requiring the use of standard prominent colors.

Right to Choose? Can't have one without the other, I'd say. I've always wated vanity plates for our "company car", but never considered the vanity headers. Nothing really turned me on enough.
And as another poster stated, "KISS Rocks" would probably work, if Gene Simmons had his way - he'd of course want the net proceeds ;)

it's a vanity plate- and not something I have to display because the State says so. If it were the state motto, I'd have to learn to be creative with a jack- hammer, or a brush- to add my part to the message to make it my own- instead of some Pro-life advertisement. While the words themselves can mean anything- the original massage remains the same. I don't care if others want to display the message--just-not me--unless I can change it to what I want it to say.

Also creating "choose liberty" and "choose the pursuit of happiness" plates would round things out nicely. Life and liberty are usually working to balance each other out, one gaining more importance as the other declines.

“Pro-life organizations shouldn’t be penalized for expressing their beliefs,”
True. Very true. BUT... They should be ready for a flood of... Satan is our savior, Pro-Choice, God hates fags, His noodley appendage, and Kiss Rocks plates.

"Choose Life." Awesome!
In effect, it says "We recommend you choose Life, but in the end it's still your right to decide."
