Ex-KKK Member Convicted In 1964 Killings

Author: Emily Wagster Pettus, Associated Press Source: Yahoo

Title: EX-KKK MEMBER CONVICTED IN 1964 KILLINGS
An 80-year-old former Ku Klux Klansman was convicted of manslaughter Tuesday in the slayings of three civil rights workers that shocked the nation exactly 41 years ago and helped spur passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
The jury of nine whites and three blacks reached the verdict on their second day of deliberations, rejecting murder charges against Edgar Ray Killen but also turning aside defense claims that he wasn't involved at all.
Killen showed no emotion as the verdicts were read. He was comforted by his wife as he sat in his wheelchair, wearing an oxygen tube. He was immediately taken into custody by the sheriff, and Circuit Judge Marcus Gordon set sentencing for Thursday.
Civil rights workers James Chaney, Andrew Goodman and Michael Schwerner were ambushed on June 21, 1964. Their bodies were found 44 days later buried in an earthen dam. They had been beaten and shot.

The Crow said "Don't look!" For crow fans, you'll understand what this means. Hopefully they can finally rest for natural law has been found finally. The great wheel is always turning and things are in motion unseen to those blind to their own undoings. This action will be seen carrying over into the political world soon I think...

Unfortunately... there are some acts that will never see justice... this one I am afraid falls into that category. He will appeal. They will drag it out longer... and the three innocent men are still gone.

At least he still lives to receive the justice he no doubt believed he escaped. If he had died, it wouldn't have mattered much. Now at least there may be closure.

"The three were stopped for speeding, jailed briefly, and then released, after which they were followed out of town by a gang of Klansmen and killed."
All while Edgar Killen was at a wake? Hiring Agents Provocateur to do such murders was more the Modus Operendi of J. Edgar Hoover, which is why the practice is now illegal.
"Prosecutors had asked the jury to send a message to the rest of the world that times have changed in Mississippi"
My understanding was that Juries were not allowed to convict "To send a message, " but were supposed to consider only the case before them. Sounds like an appeal is coming.
"Witnesses — primarily Klansmen — testified that Killen was a local Klan organizer who led meetings where members discussed the "elimination" of "Goatee, " as Schwerner was known because of his beard."
Just because something was discussed, doesn't mean the Chair entertained that discussion.
