Nothing Christian In Religious Bigotry (Editorial)

Author: Greenwood Commonwealth Editorial Source: Greenwood Commonwealth (MS)

Title: NOTHING CHRISTIAN IN RELIGIOUS BIGOTRY
How can a group claim the name Christian and yet blatantly discriminate against the largest Christian denomination in the United States?
As reported last week by the Jackson Clarion-Ledger, Bethany has turned down Catholic couples in Mississippi seeking to adopt because, according to a Bethany spokesman, Catholicism does not agree with that agency's statement of faith.
What kind of faith, though, dictates that a couple is undesirable as adoptive parents simply because of their choice of religion? What should really matter, when it comes to finding a family for an unwanted child, is whether that family will provide a loving, nurturing, caring environment for the child. Neither Christianity nor any denomination of it has a monopoly on that qualification.

Jesus - the same guy who sat down and talked with Samaritans, and accepted a drink from a Samaritan woman. If you know your Bible, you had better understand the significance of a proper Jew having anything to do with a Samaritan.
Jesus - the guy who included Matthew among his inner circle of disciples. Matthew had been a Publican, which meant that he had a franchise to collect taxes on Rome's behalf (plus extra for himself) . In the eyes of proper Jews, he was a sell-out as well as a crook. In proper Jewish circles, he would be as unwelcome as a Samaritan or a leper.
And these people think that they are serving Jesus?

if they are accepting any government funds, no matter how limited, that should be under contention along with a lesson in good old secular ethics. officials not of the church have to answer to what goes on in their business and if they are denying adoptions due to religious reasons-- that should be a matter for the courts and they should either be made to comply-- or shut down.

"Bethany could now face being cut off from the tag proceeds. Money, though, should not be the impetus for a change in policy. Rather, Bethany should drop its discriminatory ways because they are inherently un-Christian."
Bethany must sacrifice this access unto Public Funding, because it's their religious tradition, that Baptism is to be received in Inspiration, rather than presented unto a Child. They do not count as Christian those who haven't been inspired to receive, and are compelled to practice Religious Descrimination therefor.
If we are to accept a diversity of Spiritual Traditions, we must accept other Traditions than Religion which, as a Roman Word, refers only to the Worship of Jesus Christ in Apostolic Succession from Pope Peter I. These people are Christian, rather than Religious.
