Miss. House Committee Votes To Ban Most Abortions

Author: Associated Press   Source: Sun-Herald (MS)

Title: MISS. HOUSE COMMITTEE VOTES TO BAN MOST ABORTIONS

A Mississippi House committee voted Tuesday to ban most abortions in the state.

The only exception would be if the life of the pregnant woman were in danger. There would be no abortions allowed in cases of pregnancy caused by rape or incest.

The revised bill moves to the full House for consideration. Holland says a vote could come by next week.

DNC, this is what most of the abortions performed on women who had the means to pay were called prior to Roe v. Wade. I'm sure it will make a wildly popular comeback, along with vacations to far more tolerant countries.

Bright Blessings,

Jason

Can't wait to be living in it again! All the fun of being a woman with the being quiet and having all my decisions made for me! How exciting!
I've debated this issue so much with my husband, I've actually found a way I could be anti choice, wanna hear? Why don't they use all their money and resources on making birth control available for everyone and make sure all children that are in need of homes (which I'm sure is in the 10's of thousands) have good homes. I don't see all anti choice and religious righters adopting all the children bouncing around foster care and adoption centers. That way, abortions wouldn't be necessary and if an accident did happen, the mother could be reassured her child would go instantly into a good home. Wouldn't that be wonderful? Oh, that's right, all their money goes into protesting family planning clinics and making terrible posters of fetuses. My bad.
Either have solutions, or shut up and let people make their own decisions! See you all in corsets and sitting rooms! 1880 here we come!

One of the reasons I got my tubes tied almost as soon as I turned 35. I could see the signs of the trends approaching, and my uterus does not have "Property of the United States Government" stamped on it, thank you very much.

Ladies, it might be a good time to learn how to cultivate and properly utilize pennyroyal and rue.

As far as the lack of provision for incest, that follows the grand tradtion of such things set forth in the Bible. For whom did Cain and Seth take as wives, as there were only the children of Adam and Eve extant in the world at the time?

I will say this much: living in the supposed "buckle" of the Bible Belt gives one a new perspective and depth of understanding of the word "hypocrisy."

WitchPoet (Claremont, California) - Email Me - Web

The big issue to me seems to be that the hardline (it is murder) anti-abortion folks don't seem to even know where they get their idea that life (personhood) begins at conception.
It doesn't come from the Bible. The only passages that even REMOTELY have anything resembling a comment on the subject have God referring to a DESTINED AND ORDAINED BY GOD PROPHET not the common Joe and Jane. On top of that all through the entire span of time that the Bible was written abortion, both physical and chemical, were commonplace. Through much of that timespan abandonment was practiced. Yet not one verse, not one LINE anywhere addresses it. By what logic do the AA folks KNOW that life begins when two cells meet? Do they take into account that many fertilized eggs never implant and many more spontaneously abort, often before the woman even knows she is pregnant? Does the Soul-Stork suddenly arrive at the instant the winning sperm dumps its genetic load? Doesn't that make GOD an abortionist? More fertilized eggs and temporarily implanted ova have flushed down the toilet of history than could be equalled by all the abortion clinics in the world.
I often find myself caught between two camps of fanatics. I happen to think that there SHOULD be legal protection of children in the womb...CHILDREN, not masses of tissue that are inseperable from the womans body. I think there should be two levels. Before there is SIGNIFICANT brain activity abortion should be at the discretion of the woman. After that point and until viability (say about 6 months to be conservative) abortion should require a doctors prescription citing health concerns. After that the only time I fell that abortion should be allowed is if that is the only reasonable way to save the mothers life. I say reasonable because if you say ONLY then thee could be a law that would let women die because they could not fly to another state and pay out of pocket for a procedure that would save both. I can't think of any particular clinical situation that would call for it but it should not be impossible if the womans life is truly in danger.

SInce God did NOT tell you in your Bible just when a cell becomes a human can you give me reasons why your view is better? Don't forget that Jewish Law clearly showed that the baby in the womb, NO MATTER HOW CLOSE TO BIRTH, was NOT considered human. If a pregnant woman was attacked and harmed and lost her child but survived a FINE was imposed. Only if the MOTHER died was Life for a Life enacted. Can you explain this in relation to your claim that God CERTAINLY views every fertilized ovum as fully human?
Please explain, or kindly stop trying to put your words in God's Mouth.

I prefer prolife but am not anti-abortion. The world is not all a bed of roses, so it's interesting to see sites such as the following:

"They lost only one patient in 13,000 -- a lower death rate than that of giving live birth."
[Web LINK]

Will they make her take the site down? After all, freedom of information is under assault too.

Honestly, education, abstinence, and birth control are all wise. Both abstinence and birth control are better than abortion, but even birth control is under attack in some places, with pharmacists refusing to fill prescriptions.

(Withhold sex on a widescale basis, as both a practicality and protest? Doubt it will happen. Never know though.)

Sex education is under attack with funding and other wars over abstinence-only programs. [Web LINK]

The uncomfortable facts are that rapes and all sorts of situations do occur, and as a previous poster stated what we have in some places here is worse than in a communist dictatorship.

If the Fundies are allowed to continue to run rampant, they will not just stop at a women's right to choose (pro choicer here) . They will only stop when each one of us is converted or killed. They will even exterminate people like me who are mentally ill (we don't pray enough to get healed. their words, not mine) .

In perfect love,

In addition to my previous post, I would like to add this point of concern:

We are being forced into backstreet abortions again. How many deaths of women will we endure before it changes again?

Women have died of septicemia (blood poisoning) , bleeding to death, and a host of other dis--eases.

Maybe this is men's way of turning the tiddes so they will be more populous. Right now, women outnumber men on the planet. If they want complete control-they are finding their way to it.

More From SD Mar 1st. at 7:19:06 pm EST

NeferKa (Brookings, South Dakota) - Email Me - Web

The flaw with voting: The chance for the veto will occur before elections. I participate in elections, but not everyone does. Many of the people affected by abortion bans are too young to vote anyway. Apparently women in the country are old enough to get raped and have children, but they can’t voice their opinions politically.

Besides, most women who seek abortions were using contraceptives, but they failed. I think in SD, because they will define life at conception, this will mean no more plan B.

SD is worried because they’ll loose money from tourism, so I recommend writing to the governor: [Web LINK] Office of the Governor, 500 E. Capitol Ave., Pierre, SD 57501, or calling 605.773.3212. We should do the same for Mississippi!

There’s was an article yesterday in the Sioux Falls paper about t-shirts being sold over this too, which I contributed to as well.

And Women Will Again Take The Brunt Mar 1st. at 7:08:46 pm EST

bigcat (peoria, Illinois) - Email Me

I am reminded of the girl that had her baby in a bathroom, flushed it as if it was nothing more than a candy wrapper, then went out onto the dance floor as if nothing happened.
Then, there was the one in Brazil, found wrapped alive in a plastic garbage bag found still floating in a river.
One can expect to see much more of that now that most abortions have been banned. A baby may be a unique and special life-- but only if it's wanted. If it isn't- it will go through hell because once its out of the womb, the state- and even many family members won't give a fillip about it once it starts needing money to survive. If this is supposed to punish people, I can guarantee that it didn't really work in the past-- and it won't work now.
Taking choices away isn't about to do anything but create more problems for those least able to care about them. And I can assure the State of Mississippi, and the State of South Dakota that they won't like it one bit when those "unique and special" lives start straining the public aid system. Then they will consider them anything but unique-- and will do all in their power to pass the buck on their care and blame those girls who "dared" to get pregnant- without taking into account that the situation was never in their hands to begin with. The way they have always done in the past.

that a woman’s womb will soon become state and or federal property. Implications? Many! Not the least of which is the potential to require every single woman or girl of child-bearing age to have to submit to a state or federally required pregnancy test before they can cross state lines. If you are not afraid - then you haven't been paying attention.

To be compelled by the state to carry the product of a rape or incest to full term. It's outrageously sickening. If nothing else, people, vote with your pocketbook. Not one more penny spent in Mississippi or South Dakota. Other states wiil be quick to follow--Missouri and Kansas are likely choices. With any luck the Supreme Court may not overturn Roe, and trump states with federal dictates that protect women's rights. But ithe court has been stacked and is not looking rosy. I can scarcely believe this is the modern world, that this is the state of our nation in 2006.

What is so hard for you to understand? Every sperm is sacred, every ovum holy! The soul does not enter at any time it is already there, two halves destined to meet as one person. The SOUL is viable back from mother and father to mother and father back to Adam and Eve. BEfore Adam and Eve sinned against God and Fell there were no miscarriages possible or failures ot implant and Adam was not capable of having a nocternal emmision. These things resulted from the evil SIN that Eve started. To BE a man or woman is to be twisted and sick and evil at heart, WE are responsible for those babies that never will be! We already have that and so much else to get on our knees and beg forgivness for that to add to it would be arrogant foolishness!! Not only should the DEATH penalty be imposed for abortion (on the doctor AND the evil "mother", but on the "father too if they knew about it and ANYONE elses who knew the abortion was to take place and did not report it. Also Masturbation by men should be also a death penalty crime as each sinfull climax is mass murder on a scale even the abortion clinics can not touch!!!! WOmen should be allowed to masturbate and even should be FORCED to if they are too wanton in their ways as a method of curbing their Satanic appitites before they cause some poor soul to SIN unto Death! The final step will be to enact a law that makes it a CAPITAL CRIME for a woman who is old enough to menstruate have more than 1 period a year. They should be married and pregnant or face increasing penalties unto DEATH if needed to make them live the role the OUR LORD GOD JESUS CHIRST intended!!!
REPENT NOW SINNER!

(This has been a public survice satire)

L Henderson (Upper Township, New Jersey) - Email Me

I have often wondered if women stood up and said: "If I can't get one... you ain't gettin' none"... how fast the men in government would change their minds.

I dont agree on using abortions for birth control either, but birth control is not 100% effective and a woman should have that choice to terminate in the instance that birth control fails.
