Congregation Plans To Protest Soldier’s Funeral

Author: AP   Source: MSNBC

Title: CONGREGATION PLANS TO PROTEST SOLDIER’S FUNERAL

Members of a church who say God is killing American soldiers in Iraq because of the United States' tolerance of homosexuality are planning a protest at Saturday's services for Army Sgt. 1st Class Clarence D. McSwain.

The 31-year-old McSwain of Meridian died in Baghdad on June 8 when a roadside bomb exploded near his convoy, the Department of Defense said.

Members of Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kan., have been going to funerals across the United States denouncing homosexuality and praising the deaths of Americans.

All live is scared and requires understanding but none of us should have to put up with level of ignoance from our own country men! We have every right to fight back!
If Mr Philps thinks road side bombers killing american soilders is a blessing than maybe he should move to iraq for a few months and see just how much he likes bombs going off in his face. and if westbro baptist church is not down with that I've got just two words for them. .

blessed be

Thanks for the link to the Patriot Guard Riders. I salute you and I salute our brave troops.

Only the rabid fundamentalist lunatic could rejoice in the death of soldiers from his own country (they must not have been "Christian" enough…) . After all, upon having his own exclusionist dogmatic drivel and textual literalizations debunked many times over, it's all he has left in his bag of tricks to try and "validate" his doctrinal absurdities and idiocy. But what the hell, fear-mongering always works on the poor ignorant sheeple….let's go back to that! The "wrath" of biblegod killed our soldiers because of the gays…and the Pagans were partially responsible for the 9/11 tragedy! See? It's all true anyway! It will be interesting to see what new depths of twisted dementia fundies can sink to next.

As we know, our troops have been short of the proper protective equipment and supplies they need, as they engage in combat. The responsibility for that rests solely on this abysmally incompetent and corrupt administration, whose military/industrial complex cronies are once again benefiting handsomely from war, just as they did in Viet Nam.

Fred Firebrand Phelps Jun 25th. at 12:48:20 am EDT

Ahr-Ohn (Bridgeport, Connecticut) - Email Me

"We use the word "fag" as a contraction of the word "faggot." A "fag" is a firebrand. A "fag" is used for kindling -- it fuels fire. "Fag" is a metaphor used in the Bible, for example, in Amos 4:11 (where it is translated "firebrand" in the KJV) . Just as a "fag" fuels the fires of nature, so does a sodomite fuel the fires of God's wrath."

Fred is trying to light a fire, in this country, as he believes the Word demands. It's his admission of being a "Fag."

Since he is one, he's going to die.

Mark my words, he's going to die, revealling himself to be just such a "Firebrand." I told you so, and he can live with it, in the Hereafter.

Perhaps, in his next Incarnation, I'll let him see the Summerlands, and be convicted of WitchCraft.

How to regulate Free Speach, at someone else's ritual, is still and intellectual question, but I finally reveal the Truth, Fred Phelps hates Fred Phelps.

WHAT?!?! Jun 24th. at 11:54:19 pm EDT

Civilwolf (Hornell, New York) - Email Me

Ummmmm...i'm sorry to say it here people but these ARE christians. But these are the most extreme kinds of christians there are. Whether you want to believe it or not, this IS their interpretation of what the "good book" says. Just like burning witches, ahem, was another interpretation of the bible. These ARE bad people yes, however they are nothing new to the history of this religion. And saying that "god is killing americans because of homosexuals" is exactly what some of the most promenant ministers of this religion said when hurrican Katrina hit the south isn't it? It was either pat robertson or somebody said that. Anyways, this is nothing new and will be nothing new for a long time to come so get used to it.

I am of two minds regarding Westboro. On the one hand, they are a mutual reinforcing pathology on wheels. On the other hand, the younger members of the group have been indoctrinated into this pathology from birth and have not had a chance to be normal people (or as close to normal as one can be) . I feel sorry for the children of these unhealthy people.

Considering his attitude, the fact that he is openly praising the deaths of troops from his own country-- no matter what his reasoning, could be considered treasonous if this were any other nation. I hope they can be kept far enough away that they don't interfere with the family- as they no doubt hope to do.
This group deserves no publicity- or any respect no matter what state they are in. Even the collective insanity they all seem to share.

Are There Not Laws Against This Already? Jun 24th. at 11:05:55 pm EDT

Lasombra (Columbus, Ohio) - Email Me

My goodness, these people have gone too far with this. Canada has more liberal laws regarding homosexuality and yet their young men are not dying......where is the logic here? Why is the USA the only target of god's wrath?
This all just does not follow.

I honestly feel that these "Christians" are insane. How disrespectful can you get? I'm glad to hear about the Patriot Riders and the services they are providing for the families. They will rue the day when they try this at the wrong funeral.

Namaste,
Morrigan

any of them could be arrested for disterbing the peace. What they are doing can clearly lead to violance especially if the soldier being laid to rest had any of his army buddies present.
