Faith Helps Grievers: Interfaith Panel Discussion Thursday Addresses Topic

Author: Leslie Boyd   Source: Asheville Citizen-Times (NC)

Title: FAITH HELPS GRIEVERS: INTERFAITH PANEL DISCUSSION THURSDAY ADDRESSES TOPIC

Death is one thing all humans share and most also believe something happens to the spirit after death.

Faith can comfort those left grieving, no matter what form that belief takes.

The North Carolina Center for Creative Retirement and Mountain Area Interfaith Forum present a panel discussion, “Through a Prism Darkly: Different Faiths Grapple with Death and Mourning,” at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Chestnut Ridge Room of the Reuter Center at UNC Asheville.

“I've been with this topic all my life,” said the Rev. Buddy Corbin, who spent a career as a Baptist minister before beginning work as a chaplain at CarePartners Hospice. “It's an ancient question. … I think we all know there's something more.”

In Pagan tradition, the soul travels to be with the ancestors in a pastoral setting. Death is not a sudden event, but a transition, said Byron Ballard, a Wiccan priestess.

Would Patch Adams wear a black swallow-tail coat, to a Zoroastrian Funeral? "Hi, where's lunch?"

I've found one Wiccan rather confused about the actual location of The Summerlands; Aradia's Temple is closer to Kasmir, than to Fiddler's Green; from Summerset, take the great circle, in the direction of the Beltaine Sunrise. It's simply a bit crowded, and best visited sans corpus.

It's easier to deal with Death, if you can wait upon the Dead, without putting words in the mouths of others. How to train Children in this is a challenge, but the body uses Mortaphobia to trigger Puberty, and it tends to leave the adolescent a bit confused.

Having some ritual answers, for the cause of a grief, is not quite the same, as the ability to look through Grief, and I've to work out the real solution, if we're ever to attain a competance in Economics. I'll have to deal with it soon, because our current distress is resulting from a fear of that grief.

Anxiety over Birth Community has blinded many leaders of the Herds of Man, and Birth Community is largely a remedy for Death, but turning a blind eye towards Death and Birth Community hasn't worked either, so we're going to have to get some real, or even adequate, answers on this subject.
