I Listen and Sometimes It Makes Me Sad

Author: Byron Ballard (blog)   Source: Asheville Citizen-Times (NC)

Title: I LISTEN AND SOMETIMES IT MAKES ME SAD

We had a soggy, wild, fun May Day celebration yesterday in Montford Park. When all the pop-ups were away and everything was loaded and I really, really wanted food and drink, I heard a comment that both saddened and angered me. One of the attendees said they had been Pagan for a while but didn't realize Pagans could come together and actually have fun. Marveled that this large group of people really seemed to love life.

Like I said, it was soggy...but we managed to dance and sing and clap as the eight dancers managed the slippy May Pole.

and now that i am a severely disabled widow with major other health problems, let me add that i'd encourage people to enjoy life whenever and wherever they can - even over little things and in small ways, but esp. at our gatherings. Although i can't get out but by ambulance to medical appts. and such like the happiness of former days keeps me going- for i know so many folks, esp in mainstream society, who have or seem to have never, ever been happy. i think this is a good reminder to all of us to be grateful rather than hateful (GRIN) and if "you have a choice to sit it out or dance, i hope you'll dance" as they say - bloom where you're planted, the joy is in the journey, yes these are cliches but they are good ones. i also hold on to the good memories with my late soulmate/spouse - now, today, is a day to create good memories right where we are!

as for me i used to work with HIV folks and back when it wasn't very treatable. i learned from them that i can be a person living with my condition or dying from it - and life is, after all, ultimately a terminal condition so far as this world is concerned. i choose - just for today - to be living with my disabilities, losses and major health concerns.

THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!
Granny Matrika, ye OLDE crone, brightest blessings and a belated Beltane greeting to all!

I am still trying to figure out how this is possible.

Actually maybe some fun melted some black ice on his heart! That would mean Beltane is a healing force...
I know putting winter to rest is for me.

Sad, yes, but people often find what they expect to find. No reflection on paganism, per se - there are joyless people on every path.
