Appeals court revives dispute over goddess statue

Title: Appeals court revives dispute over goddess statue
BISMARCK, N.D. - An activist's criticism of the University of North Dakota's legal aid clinic was not a proper reason for its refusal to help him challenge a "pagan" statue atop a county courthouse, a federal appeals court says.
"We have said flatly, in light of fifty years of Supreme Court precedents, that denial of participation in a state-sponsored program based on the (person's) beliefs or advocacy is unconstitutional," the court said in an opinion Thursday.
Martin Wishnatsky had sought assistance from the UND law school's Clinical Education Program to prepare a lawsuit against Grand Forks County for displaying a statue of Themis, the Greek goddess of justice and order, atop the county courthouse. The statue has been there for decades

This is all a meaningless argument for arguments sake. The Ten Commandments serve no other purpose other than to be religious that is why they are removed they were placed where they are most often by civic groups not to stand as a symbol of Justice or the Courts, but as a monument to two faith groups. They are and have been found to be set there as a means to promote the Myth that this is a Christian Nation, that is why the Supreme Court and others have ordered their removal not because they are simply Christian for if they were a part of a larger display dealing with the evolution of law they would serve an educational purpose, but they have not been placed here for that purpose they have been placed because One group wants to make the claim that all Law comes about based on their Religious Heritage. This is not the same with the Statue of Themes, which is placed as a symbol of the ideals of Justice. The matters are different and the man pursing this is grasping at straws in attempt to push the myth that Christianity is being marginalized what is being harmed with such arguments is the real harm that such government displays of religious preference can and do cause.

We cannot support removing religious monuments of Judeo-Christianity and object to removing monuments of Paganism. Fair is fair, and if wer claim to support the secularization of this county then we do not have a choice in this matter, to object ONLY when it applies to our religion is the very definition of hypocrisy.

The people in the Capitol aren't worshipping Themis. Heck, they probably didn't even know 1) that She was a Goddess or 2) Her significance. What do they want, a cross on the top of the dome? The Buddy Christ?

This man obviously has bugged these people before. They realized they were dealing with a crazed fanatic of cultures other than the Christian one, and had probably tried to get the help of free legal aid several times before for issues like abortion. This time, the law bit back. I am just sad to see that the statue of Justice, seen all over the land, might be removed.
