Easter Bunny Paraded Out Of City Hall

Author: Jason Hoppin   Source: St. Paul Pioneer Press (ND)

Title: EASTER BUNNY PARADED OUT OF CITY HALL

So long, Easter Bunny.

A toy rabbit decorating the entrance of the St. Paul City Council offices went hop-hop-hoppin' on down the bunny trail Wednesday after the city's human rights director said non-Christians might be offended by it.

The decorations including the stuffed rabbit, Easter eggs and a handcrafted sign saying "Happy Easter," but nothing depicting the biblical account of Christ's death and resurrection were put up this week in the office of the City Council by a council secretary.

It was not the first holiday decoration ever to go up in the building, but City Hall observers believe it is the first one to come down out of concerns for religious sensitivity.

So.. the bunny.. is a Pagan symbol.. but it's offensive to Pagans, because it's used.. in a Christian Holiday?

Man. Why can't we all just be happy that winter's over, Children and college students (and hte young at heart) can frollick in the sun again, and maybe we can hang neon-colored rabbits and eggs all around..

Seriously, waht's the big deal here? "Oh no, the rabbit offends my religion. or that other guys. Or someone! Someone be upset!"

The Egg and the Rabbit ARE Wiccan symbols that the fundies absconded for themselves. Sorry, it was ours first!

Peace & love to all

This is getting ridiculous. I am not offended by an Easter Bunny, but it seems xtians are. Yet they're using that as an excuse- just as they did last easter to lay that guilt trip on us as they've been doing every holiday.
The next bunny I get will wear a pagan symbol of the Goddess- and there won't be a cross in sight.

This is getting ridiculous! Even with the "Happy Easter" sign, I don't believe the display fits the definition of "overtly religious."

Easter, the bunny and the egg are all Pagan symbols co-opted by Christianity. So therefore they don't offend me at all.

If they think that the Easter Bunny is offensive to non-Christians, why don't they change the name of their city?

I have to wonder if this is meant to make non-Christians look like killjoys who want to keep little kids from having fun on Easter.

Anyway, quite a contrast from the Passion of the Bunny 2 years ago:

All hail to the Dark Rabbit of Doom luring innocent children into the cycle of Life with Eggs, and other fertility symbols.
Why they might think that there is Joy in the renewal of the world???
Christians must adhere to using a symbol of death at all times to protect the young ones from ideas that might corrupt them into Knowlege of Sex and Reproduction!
I mean they might beqin to question the FACT that they were found under a cabbage?

I hope the local Pagan Circle will extend a ritual welcome to the Energizer Bunny.

I've an idea that it was Odin, The Easter Bunny, and Agni, also known as Santa Claus, San Francisco, and Saint Brigit, who'd been the three Magoi.

"Still, Council President Kathy Lantry said it's not the government's business to celebrate holidays.
"We're a public building. We're open to all the public," Lantry said."

The City Hall is there as a center of Population and Culture, and Seasonal Decoration should mark the Holidays of Religion and Commerce, and other populations. Everyone in town should have Birthdays celebrated in City Hall, if possible.

Now, perhaps the town could have its name taken away from Saul of Tarsus. Mars can speak for himself, but he was terribly insulting to the others of Astarté's Coven.
