N. Dakota Farmers File Lawsuit Against DEA To Grow Industrial Hemp

Author: PRNewswire-USNewswire   Source: Yahoo

Title: N. DAKOTA FARMERS FILE LAWSUIT AGAINST DEA TO GROW INDUSTRIAL HEMP

Two North Dakota farmers filed a lawsuit today in U.S. District Court for the District of North Dakota in an effort to end the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration's (DEA) obstruction of commercial hemp farming in the United States. If successful, the legal action would result in licensed hemp farmers receiving assurances that no federal agency could hold them criminally liable under the Controlled Substances Act. Vote Hemp's grassroots supporters are funding the legal action. A copy of the complaint is available online at: http://www.votehemp.com/legal_cases_ND.html.

One of the central arguments in the litigation is that industrial hemp is defined to be those varieties of Cannabis that have no drug value and are cultivated exclusively for fiber and seed.

ND Hemp Jun 21st. at 3:28:07 am EDT

Kathleen (West Fargo, North Dakota) - Email Me

I read something similar to this about 2-3 months ago. I would really like to see hemp grown in my state (I do live in North Dakota) and perhaps even on my dad's land that he owns.
I have no idea why the DEA thinks that hemp is a drug.

From the beginnings of our country when farmers were required to grow hemp because of its industrial uses to the nonsensical "war on drugs" which does nothing but provide price supports and job security for drug dealers.

When will this country grow up and use logic instead of emotion to rule the nation. Hemp is an important crop and I am glad that N. Dakota is allowing farmers to grow it. I can only hope that the idiots in the Federal govt leave them alone.

You aparently didn't understand the sarcasm in my post.

Your email was: Smoking pot is not the REASON for banning hemp it is the EXCUSE. Hemp industial uses ARE the reason. The petro-chemical co.s MADE IT ILLEGAL to stop competition not to stop pot heads. THEY WERE THE SMOKESCREEN.

I know that it was the smokescreen. All you have to do is to watch the movie Reefer Madness to know that.

Please could you do us all a favor and spell check your posts please. I am not asking for perfection, but do try please. And stop with all of the CAP letters. Everyone one of your posts is full of them. We understand that everyone gets a bit heated about topics important to them, but chill out will ya?

As the previous poster pointed out, it was also the paper corporations who along with the steel people and probably others.

Most of us here are fairly educated about the differences between pot and hemp. It 's the morons in government who need to have the differences clearly pointed out to them. It's a typical knee-jerk reaction. Like saying if anyone tries pot within a short period of time they will be crack heads.

And if pot were legal, think of the money generated from taxes, fees for licenses, etc. Yes there needs to be a strick set of guidelines, just copy the laws for alcohol and tweek those laws as necessary.

My Mom Jun 18th. at 11:53:16 pm EDT

antares (fort scott, Kansas) - Email Me

When I was a very small child I remember the anger of my mother when she could no longer purchase blue jeans made with hemp. She complained that the all cotton ones, altho a bit softer, wore out MUCH faster. I am sure the problem is with the corporations eliminating the competition. We should not fear our government (it is us) , it is the corporations we must fear. Before you vote, find out how much corporate backing that candidate is getting. Then you will know who owns them.

WitchPoet (Claremont, California) - Email Me - Web

That even today so many people are ignorant of the process by which pot became illegal. Drugs are not eh ISSUE, they are the SMOKESCREEN!!!
The whole criminilizatiuon campaign was started by INDUSTRIAL CONCERNS.
Nothing has changed, the same forces STILL do not want hemp a commercial product to compete with synthetics. IT IS NOT ABOUT POT AND NEVER HAS BEEN!!!

This Product Could Solve Our Fuel Problem If Jun 18th. at 8:04:33 pm EDT

Lady Aurora (Medford, Massachusetts) - Email Me

our government would just get a grip and realize that this type of hemp is not smokable.

There was an article in a 1920's Popular Mechanics by Henry Ford maker of the Model-T. He built a car totally of hemp. He said that it was stronger than steel, lighter and easier to work with. He thought that hemp would be a miracle product. I guess the steel people had something to say about that.

It is amazing that there is a plant that could be used to totally make a car and run it. The person driving could be wearing all hemp clothing too.

And you can make some foods out of it too.

Needs little pesticides and grows phenomanilly well.

But the government is afraid everyone would start getting high all the time. Yeah, if fhey want a headache. It would be like smoking cornsilk.
