Grand Forks Town Square To Celebrate Nordic Midsummer Fest

Author: Lisa Davis   Source: Grand Forks Herald (ND)

Title: TOWN SQUARE TO CELEBRATE NORDIC MIDSUMMER FEST

Fjord horses, maypole dancing, and the lefse hall of fame are just a few attractions of the Nordic Initiative Midsummer fest set for June 21 in the Grand Forks Town Square. The festival celebrates bridge building between the old and new Nordic cultures.

Each country in Scandinavia celebrates the longest day of the year on the Saturday that falls between the 20th and the 26th of June. Each country has its own tradition. The Swedes dance around a maypole, a symbol of fertility, that is trimmed with garlands of flowers. The celebrants join hands and dance to tunes played on an accordian and fiddle.

sounds really nice, If youre ever in Sweden over midsummer, be sure to visit the folkfeast... It is quite fascinating, Children and oldies, men and women, rich and poor, pagans and christians, All together celebrating an old fertilityfeast... It is a beautiful thing, really. And welcome to Scandinavia!

I must go to that this year, since there isn't anything else going on in the state of North Dakota for midsummer. That sounds awesome. I am gonna go to that.

Not North Dakota! Jun 7th. at 9:36:50 am EDT

Town Square? Maypole? Celebrating Nordic culture? Didn't anyone tell these folks that they're all racist heathens and they have no place in the U.S.? They *must* be the source for all racism in the world ... them and their ancestors. (Please refer to Article: 7183 from 6/4/3 for the source of my small bit of sarcasm here)

I long for the day when articles like these, dealing with all religious gatherings, are commonplace and unbiased. If North Dakota wasn't so much farther away than North Texas, I do believe I'd have to make a road trip! Sounds like a wonderful time!
