Halloween...Good Or Evil?

Author: Vickie Aufforth (Coffee Break)   Source: Burke County Tribune (ND)

Title: HALLOWEEN...GOOD OR EVIL

Halloween! Is it, as some claim, a day of demon worship, or is it merely a day of celebration derived from folklore handed down through the generations.

Originally a pagan festival of the dead, All Saints’ Day was established by the Catholic Church in the 9th century to honor Christian saints. All Soul’s Day, a holy day established by the Catholic Church in the 10th century, is also closely linked to Halloween. It is celebrated on Nov. 2 and is observed to help purify the spirits of the dead.

Many of the ancient peoples of Europe marked the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter by celebrating a holiday in late autumn.

Hmmmm... Shall I? Oct 23rd. at 7:44:07 pm EDT

by Raven Silverwings (Canada) - wc_xemail

You know what? I don't think I'm even going to read it As far as I can tell, it looks like a half decent article, however can anyone write something other than the Good Vs. Evil articles on Halloween?? I'm sorry, but I've had enough of this stuff. Yes I know that the debate will probably go on until the end of time, however I don't want to read anymore....

Halloween Oct 23rd. at 6:07:56 pm EDT

by kelly (london) - wc_xemail

halloween is not good or bad, it is up to the person what it is, we can make it good by having a party or we could make it bad by trying to use this day to get power from the other side. so its really up to us to make it good or bad.

Such High Hopes... Oct 23rd. at 3:28:58 pm EDT

by Crescent Sweetbriar (Monroe, NY) - wc_xemail

I had for this article; everything was going swell, until the last paragraph. Um, "cults"?

She gets points for doing her homework, but then demolishes them by lumping all those who recognize Samhaim under the lovely, flattering label of "cult".

I Was With Her. Oct 23rd. at 2:48:00 pm EDT

by Jason Hart (Missouri, USA) - wc_xemail

I was with her, she was writing a great article. I was just thrilled someone actually bothered to do their homework before writing an article. And then, out of nowhere, the last paragraph just pops up and says... hahaha, got you. I must have forgotten to give it some candy.

Not Good OR Evil....just Is Oct 23rd. at 12:24:31 pm EDT

by Mace Gill (New Jersey, USA) - wc_xemail

Not everything can be boiled down to good or evil. These labels are merely a post Zoroastiran idea.

Hallowe'en is neither good nor evil. It is what it is.

Oh Oct 23rd. at 11:40:39 am EDT

by Dark Shadow (Indiana) - wc_xemail

Oh the sweet smell of the fall breeze in my face blowing forth the winter. The time when the god is dead and to be reborn in spring. Holloween may mean trick or treating for few but to me it means alot. Since I am wiccan lol... Well I just wanted to say this, it porobley has nothing to do with the artical though..

Blessed Be

Oh I remember. It is not evil and should be respected. This day is one of the most best days for doing about anything with magick and celebrating. The day of the dead should be respected but many do not so I am not sure what else to say...

Blessed Be...

Not Bad! Oct 23rd. at 11:36:41 am EDT

by Dahlei (Colorado) - wc_xemail

Not bad at all!

Gee Thanks Oct 23rd. at 11:33:38 am EDT

by Cayenne (USA) - wc_xemail

So she gets most of the facys about Samhain and the history of Halloween right, and then dismisses those who view it in modern times a a spiritual celebration as "cults". Thanks for nothing, moron.

by Raven Owl (Wrexham, Wales) - wc_xemail

For the love of all that is holy.. would someone use a term other then Pagan.. That has got to be the most over used term that any fundy knows.. So what is the actual term Pagan then.. if it seems to apply to absolutely everyone.. And honestly what is the point on using it.
