Native American Tribes Speak Out About Climate

Author: AP Source: Times Argus (VT)

Title: NATIVE AMERICAN TRIBES SPEAK OUT ABOUT CLIMATE
Native American leaders are speaking out more forcefully about the danger of climate change.
Members of six tribes recently gathered near the Baker River in New Hampshire's White Mountains for a sacred ceremony honoring "Earth Mother." Talking Hawk, a Mohawk Indian who asked to be identified by his Indian name, pointed to the river's tea-colored water as proof that the overwhelming amount of pollution humans have produced has caused changes around the globe.
"It's August color. It's not normal," he said.
"Earth Mother is fighting back — not only from the four winds but also from underneath," he said. "Scientists call it global warming. We call it Earth Mother getting angry."

Even the UN scientific report does NOT say what the political summary puts out. I have read article after article about the record cold temperatures in Alaska this year - record snowfall in Juneau as well. The high level of volcanic activity in the Pacific, Antartic, Artctic and Indian oceans - causing some of the ice to melt. Satellite measurements of atmospheric temperatures do not show marked temperature changes. The average temperature in the southern hemisphere is going DOWN. The ocean level in the Maldives is lower than in the last 20 years. Urban heat sinks are responsible for much of our actual climate change.
These studies are not "policy papers" written by politicians but by legitimate scientists at reputable universities all over the world.
As the government's own graphs show - it is now about 800 years after the Medieval Warming Period - which is the time span for the CO2 to rise as it historically does every time there is a temperature increase. It is usually followed by a dramatic decrease in temperature.
I continue to say that our focus on what the politicians want us to fear distracts everyone from the reality of pollution, too many people and the destruction of our mother earth. There is so much we are doing wrong that the politicans want us to ignore that they have created a boogieman for us to fear so we will ignore the real danger we face.
Remember the scare about the hole in the ozone layer? Ban the flurocarbons? Well we did that, just like they said - now the hole is bigger and there is some scientific evidence that the flurocarbons were keeping it from enlarging, not causing it.
Remember DDT - now that millions have died from malaria it appears that it was not causing the birds to die after all. They did a study and fed DDT to a group of birds. Their eggs were slightly thinner than the control group but the viability of the young was greater.
What I am saying is use large grains of salt when the government tells us what the "problem" is. Use common sense and take care of the earth. Remember at all times that the earth willl survive - we have no such guarantee.

| Like I Said, A Living, Breathing Entity... | Jun 19th. at 11:06:14 pm EDT

Witchpoet is allowed an opinion. It is a right in this country, is it not?
Being of Native American heritage, I am happy that the Nations are coming together to protect the land that we love so, that sustains us, that yes, we belong to.
However, as it is a living, breathing entity, I am certain there are many factors for the situation. And again, everyone is entitled to an opinion, possibly without the vulgarity, however, would be respectful.
Now, we all grow and change, all living things do, they are born and from that day a cycle occurs ending in death and moving on; Someday this planet will die, a natural cycle for living things.
Might it be possible that this is simply a change, let's say, like puberty, or turning 40 when our bodies begin to show a little wear of life? Maybe... however, we should do what we can to assist in making the process easier for all to understand by taking research with a grain of salt, doing what we can in our own worlds and continue living. We too, shall come to the end of our cycle and hand all these things off to the next generations. Teach them well, teach them to live. Blessings of the day.

Many people looked at me as if I were insane after the Tsunami, Katrina and many other natural disasters when I told them...
Mother Earth is ill, she is cleansing herself of the parasites, us, and she will continue until we discontinue making her ill with only taking and never replacing or respecting.
I am not insane, I am right. Mother Earth is a breathing, living, growing entity... we are stunting that growth and creating death.
It must stop.

| Simple Solutions On A Hot Issue | Jun 19th. at 4:40:59 pm EDT

Desert Flower (Phoenix, Washington) - Email Me

Global Warming is certainly a hot issue at the forefront. It seems overwhelming to me and at the same time I can visualize simple solutions that can actually make a difference. I encourage everyone globally to plant two trees local and hospitable to your climate. Those two trees will inhale your CO2 and in turn will exhale Oxygen for you to breathe. You have not only created a sacred circle between yourself and the trees--but have esentially created a net carbon environment for your respriatory process. Another simple solution is composting--really take inventory of the waste you produce. What is recyclable? What is considered organic waste that can be used for composting? You might find that you send less and less items to the landfills thus creating less methane gas burn-off and less waste to gut Mother Earth with. Numerous websites offer natural home and garden solutions like compact composting bins as well as continuous use compsting bins (One of my favorites is ) . These are just two out of thousands of possibilities for decreasing your carbon footprint. Now what if an entire population, an entire nation or even the entirety of the human race were to enact two simple solutions in their own lives? What kind of difference will simple solutions make?
Blessed Be

LD Wolverine (Edmonton, Ontario) - Email Me

I don't have a PHD, I don't claim to know anything more then the average joe about "global warming". Actually it is far to large a scale for me to grasp. I don't know if we are to blame for the change in the worlds temp, or if it is only natural.
There are a few facts I know very well though.
I know that back in 1982 I was a kid who went to the beach and swam in Lake Erie. At no time did it cross my mind, or my parent's mind, as to the safety of the water there.
Now though, I would NEVER allow my child to swim in that lake. You risk rashes at least, EColi at worst and even that weird ass flesh eating disease.
In 20 years, a Great Lake went from being safe, to being someplace that I simply deem to dangerous for my kid to play in.
It is the same all across Canada right now. I am a camper and a fisher woman. But, where only 15 years ago I would go camping and cook what I caught right up till early August, I have turned into a Springtime fisherwoman. I know that, because of the amount of crud in the waters, and it only gets worse as it gets hotter, that the fish are not palateable much past Canada Day Weekend.
Why is this?
Cause Humans are pigs. We throw our crap everywhere, literally, and expect Mother Earth to clean it up for us.
She can't handle much more, people, and if we don't come to that realization pretty freaking fast, she's gonna spank us something good.
I am actually pretty proud of my little family. We have reduced ourselves down to about 1 and a half bags of garbage a week. There is myself, my husband, my son and my Mother-in-Law living in my house. I admit, we dont do as much as we could, but as my husband and I have differing faiths and points of view, well, I do what I can. Recycle, compost, fix things instead of buying new...that sort of thing.
So really, all this debate over Global Warming is a moot point in my book. Where I stand, you simply have to open your eyes, and your noses, and know we are making a dump of our planet and we really should clean it up...regardless of what they say about global warming. Try global cleaning. It can only help.
Peace. Linda

Your seething anger is an indication of your lack of objectivity on the subject. Global warming is an important environmental issue that must be approached objectively. It is important to look at all the data and work together to come to an intelligent conclusion as to what is actually happening to the climate. Blind emotion and ranting precludes objective rational thought. I would hope that we could all address the issue without resorting to chest pounding.

for those that believe in global warming:
before leaving on a trip place an ice cube on a saucer in the freezer. check condition of ice cube on return to verify food condition.
for those that don't accept global warming:
a glass of tap water on the counter will work just as well
sorry - couldn't resist

Autumnfyre Spark (Port Charlotte, Florida) - Email Me

We can debate until the cows come home about what, where, when, why and how global climate change/global warming is or isn't.I look at it this way, what harm can it do to take simple steps to reduce any sort of pollution we cause? Why not do a little housekeeping, regardless of what the climate may be doing?

Oh, and for the pseudofundie christians-in-Wiccan-clothing out there who are trying to convince everyone that global warming is nothing but a myth, try presenting facts before disproving what carbon monoxide's doing to the ozone layer.
...then again, I can also pull figures of my own out of my a**.

While the argument goes on as to what is causing global warming, am I alone in believing that man has damaged the earth with polution? Isn't it about time we quit arguing and made an honest effort to clean up our act? Whether or not we've caused the temperature to rise causing the destruction of ice caps, etc., shouldn't we be smart enough to take care of the only home we have?
How many Pagans are willing to: 1. Buy locally 2. Recycle 3. Walk or bike rather than drive 4. Live in an adequate amount of space and forgo the MacMansion 5. Do without the putting green lawn 6. Repair rather than rebuy 7. Do without the 'latest' gadget to impress the neighbors 8. Etc...
We are always looking for ways to make a statement about who and what we are. How about we show by example? Many Pagans do these things. I'm talking to those of you who talk the talk but don't walk the walk.

Oh for f**k's sake...
The Flat Earth Society's Anti-Global-Warming conspiracy convinced members of the PAGAN community of its bulls**t? Guess every group DOES have it's idiots.
Wait until your homes in Ohio become beachfront property.

Where did you get your "data"? Fox News? Everyone else in the world is taking care of the climate crisis while we sit here like idiots pretending it doesn't exist. Maybe I should just move to Canada before Florida goes underwater.

Your OPINION means nothing. the DATA show that CO2 rises several years AFTER temps rise. FACT. FACT: therre have been times with MUCH higher CO2 levels. The climate your sorry self grww up with is NOT the "ideal" no matter how much your EGO wants it to be. I know you just HATE humanity and would look for any excuse to diss IT but the FACT is that the amount of Co2 added by humans is a SMALL fraction of what is duped every year by nature. I am sorry you are not the bgig bad disaster you want to be. THe FACT is that with all this crap about Global Warming the REAL ISSUES such as mercury and bio-diversity are IGNORED!!!! YOU are the sell-out! You sell your REALITY for a pot of feel good opinion!

Yeah that’s the ticket… Solar fluctuations are entirely responsible for Global Warming. Humans are in no way responsible. All that insulating CO2 can’t be involved. It’s best to just ignore it all and hope that it will go away. I’m sure that the Petroleum industry knows what’s best for us. Wow sarcasm is fun…
