Blind Teen Raises Funds For Braille Potter Book

Author: Melissa Lattman, Portsmouth Herald News Source: Seacoast Online (NH)

Title: BLIND TEEN RAISES FUNDS FOR BRAILLE POTTER BOOK
As Harry Potter fans count the days until the last book is released, a team led by blind children is raising funds to sponsor the Braille edition of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows."
The Braille edition will be released July 21, the same day as the print version. The Braille edition is sold at the print edition price, but costs about twice as much to produce. The fund-raising makes up the cost difference.
Co-captained by East Kingston resident and Cooperative Middle School eighth-grader Adam Roberge, the team "Harry Potter and the Walking Wizards" is helping the National Braille Press raise the more than $50,000 needed to produce the book's Braille edition.
They walked the Vision 5K in Boston on June 2. The race raised awareness and more than $215,000 for five organizations, including the NBP, that provide services to the blind and visually impaired. Roberge's team has raised $7,530 still short of its $10,000 goal.

Very expensive to publish, print and ship. National Braille Press' purpose is to publish works for blind readers that cost no more than the book would cost for a sighted reader. They are a non-profit, and raise money so that they can sell HP at the same price B&N can.
Most publishers don't do braille editions of their books, they leave that to special braille presses, as it's a highly specialized and relatively small market.
Wonder if anyone has approached JKR for a donation?

Good for him!! I was so glad to see that a young person actually wants to read, imagine that! Well, that is until the fundies have a fit, oh yeah, don't let Laura Mallory know! That would be a whole new court case tomorrow! *Laughs* Brightest Blessings to all!! Elwin Shadowstrider ) O (

Wait...wouldn't it stand to reason that Rowling's publisher would release a Braille one? It would only be common sense. What's the word on the other books?
On a somewhat related note, I'll read the books once the last book is released and the fanfare dies down.
