Three Teens Charged In Gravesite Disturbance

Author: Kristen Senz   Source: Union Leader (NH)

Title: THREE TEENS CHARGED IN GRAVESITE DISTURBANCE

Police have arrested three teenagers in connection with the disturbance of a nearly two-century-old gravesite at the remote Bible Hill Cemetery around Halloween.

At the time, Police Chief Brian Brown said he did not believe teenagers were involved. "If it was teenagers, they'd be talking."

That led investigators to study up on magic and witchcraft, hoping they'd find some link or motive in the case. But the suggestion that the body of a woman who died more than 180 years ago might be desirable to practitioners of witchcraft prompted a flurry of angry telephone calls from all over the country and Canada.

Apparently, who ever stole the bones were too darn cheap to buy some legally.

There is a lot of literature out in the world with a lot of wild stories in it. Some are based on theories people have, conclusions they have jumped to. There is a very eclectic mix of fact and fiction so if these guys ran down to their public library and checked out some of the things I have seen over the years, I see why they may have come to the place they started coming to before the angry cards and letters came rolling in.

There is a need for better education of staff who investigate crime. This may be just a small part of things they deal with day to day but I think it will help them a lot.

Kerr Cuhulain wrote a very good book called Witch Hunt's - Out of the Broom Closet.

That should be included in every police training course. Nothing can be done about personal religious bias really. People will think what they want but at least this book would be a good resource and hopefully someone in the investigation group would remember seeing it and go pick it up for a refresher. Might save some time. Might help them figure out what is really going on.

Vandalism is what it is. It needs to be dealt with as such.
