Dis-Spelling Wiccans Image

Author: Jim Beckerman   Source: North Jersey Record

Title: DIS-SPELLING WICCANS IMAGE

Are you a Wiccan?

If you plan to spend Saturday – the longest day of the year – in a comfy sofa in an air-conditioned room, drinking Coronas and watching the Yankees play the Cincinnati Reds, the answer is: probably not.

If, on the other hand, you plan to spend the coming summer solstice – which you call “Litha” – in a park or other leafy outdoor space, planting a tree and thanking The Goddess … well, you just might be a Wiccan, witches to the hoi polloi. And you just might run into Robert Vecchio of Totowa. He’ll be outdoors that day, doing much the same things.

I thought this was a very well written article. It was tastefully done without the usual Hollywood spin that's put on Wicca/Witchcraft. Whether this was a group of advanced practitioners or a training group makes little difference. The fact is, they paid reverence to the God and Goddess and the gentleman who authored the article honored them with positive reporting as well.

Not every Wiccan observes the holidays the same way. Some of us have physical difficulties and some of us are otherwise not able to do the fully robed ceremonial rituals.

Is it just me that this sounds a litle like " you might be a redneck" jokes? Oh yeah we did have a few years ago a series of jokes about " redneck Pagan."

The thought just entered my mind on how a fluffy bunny Pagan would observe the Summer Solstice.. EWWW!!!
