Federal Judge Dismisses Challenge To Las Cruces School Logo

Author: The Associated Press Source: First Amendment Center Online

Title: FEDERAL JUDGE DISMISSES CHALLENGE TO LAS CRUCES SCHOOL LOGO
A Las Cruces man has been handed another defeat in his fight to rid public institutions of what he claims are religious symbols.
U.S. District Judge Robert Brack ruled Dec. 7 in Weinbaum v. Las Cruces Public Schools that a lawsuit filed by Paul Weinbaum against the Las Cruces school district was without merit.
Weinbaum sued the school district in 2003, alleging its use of three crosses in its logos and on school grounds violates the First Amendment by using public funds to promote religion. Weinbaum had requested that the logos be removed.
Las Cruces is Spanish for “the crosses.”

Perriwinkle the Evil (Ozark, Alabama) - Email Me

Like duh, the name of the town is "LAS CRUCES". What are you going to put on the logo, the Three Stooges? I like keeping faith far from politics, but that citizen went a bit too far.

While the 3 crosses ( Las Cruces, Les Croix) do invoke rememberances of christian legends. They can also bring to mind the visions of many other three's. The original trinity of Father ,Mother, Child/ren, comes to mind. As Does making the " sign of the cross reciting " Odin, Thorr, Balder, and Freya."
The symbol of the cross also invokes ( at least of me) a couple comedic memories, one being an old papal joke. When the Pope is standing on the Papal balcony and makes the familiar sign of the cross what is he actually saying? answer: " My Father playes domino's better than your's does. Let's have a game." And a lyric from an underground tape I had as a teenager, " Alla youse wop's get offa my lawn."
In short It is time we all looked for ways to turn adversity to advantage. I cannot help but believe that the Time, Treasure, and Travail , ( again 3 Tau crosses) expended on this venture could not have been better spent.
