Author: AP Source: News Channel 10

Title: BOOKS SEIZED AT PORTALES LIBRARY IN CHILD'S DEATH
Police used a warrant at a Portales library to seize magic and witchcraft books that had been checked out by a woman who is charged in the January Fourth death of her 6-year-old son.
According to a copyright story in today's editions of the Albuquerque Journal, 24-year-old Teresa Gilman told police "the devil was in my son."

The headline provoked an immediate cognitive response: "Why don't they ever sieze Bibles, or Xtian literature recently in the posession of those suspected of murdering their children?" As I recall, the Torah, or Old Testament contains tales of parents murdering their children or being asked (by the demiurge) to sacrifice same. Let's be honest, most convicted murderers of their children in North America are nominally Christian.

that when issues of possible demon/devil possesion come up the desperate souls always grab for a witchcraft source. This is funny because, for the most part wicca/witchcraft does NOT recognize the existence of evil. If this person was in fact a person of christian belief (the one that always coins the phrase "the devil made me do it") why didn't she reach for the good 'ole BIBLE.
This is horrific event and local police and news authority ought to be focusing on the mental well being of the surviving children instead of bad mouthing library books.

Mother arrested for abuse of son.
Reports state that she beat her son with a Christian Bible after reading books from the Left Behind series.
(Not to be hoping for child abuse, but you get my point.)

Let's just forget about the meth and smoke. Let's not bother to discuss the rancid living conditions and probable mental illness aspects of this case.
SHE READ A BOOK ON MAGIC AND WITCHCRAFT.
Never mind she thought her son was possessed by the DEVIL which does not exist in WICCA.
SHE READ A BOOK ON WITCHCRAFT THEN KILLED HER CHILD.
The authors of these illiterate ramblings that pass for news articles are so transparent in their own motives as to be laughable. I bet a little digging would reveal they likely attend some evangelical church where they warm the pew every Sunday. They, of course, spend Monday through Saturday bearing false witness against all those not like them, but that doesn't matter as long as it damages the "other".

Subject: Curious why library books were seized from Portales library?
I am curious why were the books were seized from the library and are they going to be returned to the library?
It would appear the woman had emotional problems probably not helped by her use of drugs, but I really don't understand why some much was made of books she had read before doing this apparent murder.
As a civil libertarian and a Wiccan I worry about banning of books and blaming religions for what are in fact personal delusions of a troubled woman.
I think the case just shows how much mental health care we need in our State. Presently there is very little effective treatment available to poor people in general despite the great need of it. Had there been more perhaps this death would not have happened.

Acch, another reporter trying to conflate xtian "devil" rituals with witchcraft......
And, a reporter who doesn't spell 'methamphetamine' correctly.....
We might also wonder why the police needed a warrant to seize books, as opposed to for the purpose of inspecting private library records, after which the library might well loan the books to police voluntarily. However, a psychotic version of a Catholic exorcism ritual doesn't sound a lot like what Gavin or Yvonne Frost would be suggesting. Instead, I can hear Yvonne reminding an audience, "always keep fresh batteries in your bullsh*t detector."
Yup, gotta be about witchcraft. Issues like meth addiction, extreme poverty, likely illiteracy, disgusting living conditions, and probable past child abuse to indoctrinate conflicted xtian religious values aggravated by other issues that make raising 4 kids very challenging at best, couldn't contribute to a grossly dysfunctional psychotic condition. Nope, gotta be that religion in which xtian devils don't so much as exist, not mentioned in the article, as usual.

It seems this article says nothing at all. A boy died, is his mother a suspect even? It seems they just wanted to print that witchcraft was involved. (Or just that she checked the books out.) Best Wishes,

Why was SHE needing to even read those books in the first place? It was obvious that she was by the salt circle she was using. The devil may have been in the works, but she was the only one seeing it. She was terribly disturbed which was a tragedy for both.

Well, a circle of salt certainly wasn't the cause of death...and the article doesn't really have much to say except that they woman had checked out some books on witchcraft.
Will wait for more info.
Always a shame when a disturbed person grabs onto non-mainstream beliefs and then makes the mainstream think we're all loopy.
:::sigh:::
