The Truth About Wicca Revealed In Classes

Author: Kirsten Laskey   Source: Los Alamos Monitor (NM)

Title: THE TRUTH ABOUT WICCA REVEALED IN CLASSES

Misconceptions seem to swirl around the Wiccan faith and members of the Our Lady of the Woods church and coven are setting the record straight by hosting a series of classes.

The next upcoming class will address theology and cosmology. Rowan Liles, the coordinator for the classes, explained participants will be introduced to witches' basic belief systems and worldview.

She explained one Wiccan belief is divinity is eminent in the world. "Divinity is the world and the world is divinity."

Everything in the world is divine, Liles said. Therefore, witches do not treat things as unimportant or disposable.

Another Wiccan belief is time is circular rather than linear. Liles explained, when one life ends, another begins.

One Truth? May 20th. at 6:00:25 pm EDT

I wonder if the reporter or an editor added the headline, which implies a singular alleged "truth" to exist defining Wicca? That might be difficult to reconcile with the nature of Wicca, where 13 witches can argue over whether any of 20 definitions they formulate are accurate.

Some readers might not "get it", but I dislike the time paradigm used in this article. A laughing Buddha studying a Unix recursive directory structure makes far more sense. {LOL}

Contrary to the framing of the reporter or paper, the quotes from Ms. Liles do appear to reflect a realistic perspective, that there are common ideas and ideals among Wiccans, but no singular defining authority. How many readers would grasp the importance of that distinction, between binary framing of reality, and many-polar paradigms of parallel pieces of reality or truths coexisting?
