Pagan Pride Draws Crowd For Inaugural Celebration

Author: Ashley Meeks   Source: Silver City Sun-News (NM)

Title: PAGAN PRIDE DRAWS CROWD FOR INAUGURAL CELEBRATION

The first Las Cruces Pagan Pride celebration gathered at Veterans Park — an entrance marked by the presence of a man with a fanny-pack, a straw hat, a sign and a huge white cross.

Garland Turner, a member of Bethel Bible Fellowship, said while he routinely paces the city's sidewalks billboarding for Jesus, it was no coincidence where he placed himself Saturday.

"The message is Jesus loves everyone," Turner said, "but he only saves those who accept him. What I think about (the Pagans) doesn't matter. They have to please God."

"Hopefully," he said, smiling, "I'm not being obnoxious."

I find it odd that an article about pagan pride (and the First pagan pride in a specific area) is opened with the opinion that "Monotheism is still right, but aren't we tolerant and enlightened to let others imagine whatever they want?". Schlock reporting at its finest.

I feel sorry for the young ones, just starting their journey. If only they could study their own religion, and realize the basic truth that it is in fact Egyption with several other religions balancing it out. If only...

A Man With A Sign And A Huge White Cross Oct 15th. at 12:04:34 am EDT

Many years ago I wrote a song about people like this Turner guy. Here is a small part of it (the beginning) ...

I see the Man on the corner
with Placard and the Cross
preaching Salvation or Damnation
find the Way or be Lost
and I have to cry for I know who the Lost Ones are
I was once One myself but I have found my Guiding Star

She is Goddess
Mother, Maiden, Crone
She is Goddess
and with Her I've found my Home

(Sorry, no way to post the music here.)

It is all about respect. And this lay preacher showed respect to thosehe wanted to convert. I don't agree with his mission, but I applaud the way he went about it. I also applaud the reaction of the Pagans, being respectful right back, bringing him water. It sounds as if everyone represented themselves well. Bravo!

being obnoxious.... why do I HAVE to "please" gawd?? What do I look like, his frikkin' SLAVE? I long ago learned that you can't please the unpleaseable. That's what drew me to the Pagan Path.... I can be who I AM, without restrictions. You can have a satisfying spiritual life WITHOUT feeling humiliated.

Love to a..
