Witches, Ghosts And Hauntings..Oh My!

Author: Catherine Sager   Source: Troy Record (NY)

Title: WITCHES, GHOSTS AND HAUNTINGS..OH MY!

Teaching about the supernatural is in the cards for Pauline Bartel.

Pauline Bartel is an accomplished author, President and Chief Creative Officer of Bartel Communications, Inc., an award winning a corporate communications firm. She is a teacher, a sought after keynote speaker, and self proclaimed psychic.

As an instructor at Hudson Valley Community College, Pauline holds a three session course called Witches, Ghosts and Hauntings as part of the school’s non-credit, special interest offerings. There are usually a maximum of 25 students in her class whom she guides through the mysterious world of the supernatural. According to the class description the lessons focus on the myths and realities of witches, ghosts and hauntings from the earliest days to the present time. Then the session takes a side trip into Pauline’s personal world where she reveals her own experiences with spells and spirits.

I deeply appreciate your thoughtful contrast and perspective on, indeed, this strange paradigm so rudely amplified in this particular article. One shoe NEVER fits all.

I thought 'Drawing Down The Moon' made it all of this relatively clear, but apparently it will always be important to note that pagans and witches are profoundly different in many respects and tow no line consistently. Which befits freethinking humans, I always thought, who run the gamut from extremely religious to the most hardened of skeptics. Who at best might only share an affection for . . . apple cider? Black underwear? God only knows.

Another thorn in my foot is the flagrant resume / job title inflation. Now if they had just said she's an author, a teacher, a speaker, even a psychic . . . well, that could be someone else's judgement, too. Maybe. But no, she is also a self-proclaimed 'Chief Creative Officer' and 'President' (of course) of her own company. That reminds me of my ridiculous brother, who happens to be CEO and President of a sole proprietorship! That still makes me laugh.

Oh, but this is common. I was browsing through one of my wife's magazines the other day, reading about Christy Turlington. I thought she was just a fashion model that hooked up with Ed Burns. Oh, but that's hardly the case--she carries around at least a dozen other handles with her. The world trembles at the feet of these specatacular colossi, doesn't it? At least till you turn the page, or flip the remote.

What Do Ghosts Have To Do With Witchcraft? Oct 19th. at 2:42:53 pm EDT

Naya (Memphis, Tennessee) - Email Me - Web

It really annoys me. Here I am, trying to convince everyone around me that no, what I practice, is not kooky Ghost-hunting nonsense, and that it is firmly grounded in the real world. Then, you get people like this basically stating that anyone who is a Witch believes in ghosts and hauntings, too.

Well, guess what? I don't. I believe in the reality that the Gods have evolved around me, and I don't believe in fictional tales being a part of my physical reality. Let's stop attaching things to Witchcraft that have nothing to do with it. Ghosts and hauntings are for Scooby Doo, and Witchcraft is for people who seek gnosis, wisdom, and power by finding their connection to the Gods.
