Double, Double, Toil and Trouble

Author: SARAH LEWERS   Source: Guymon Daily Herald

Title: Double, Double, Toil and Trouble

Editor's Note: This is the sixth in a series explaining common Halloween myths and traditions.

Witches are a part of our cultural folklore.

The image of a hideous crone, green-skinned and covered with warts, flying across the night sky on her broomstick home to her black cat is a common one in cartoons and movies.

We all know witches aren't real, but our ancestors weren't so sure.

The last official execution for witchcraft in England took place in 1793, two peasants in Ireland attempted to roast a witch in 1900 and 24 people died in the town of Salem, Massachusetts during the witch craze of 1692.

There are places in the world where people still believe in the existence of evil sorceresses.

noticed, that this image

"The image of a hideous crone, green-skinned and covered with warts, flying across the night sky on her broomstick home to her black cat is a common one in cartoons and movies."

bears a very close resemblence to the condition a person would be in after surviving the dungeons
and torture . And after much time had passed finally being declared Innocent of the charges and released?

A thing to remember , in those times and in some places today you were guilty until you could prove
your innocence.
would likely

Whitewolf (Schenectady, New York) - Email Me

If I have noticed ONE thing about the Salem witch trials, it's that it was MEN doing all the BS they did to get a "confessionn" to WOMEN! If the fundies today ever thought to try the same crap again, they ought to remember 3 things....

Whatever they do will come back on them 3 times.

"What goes around, comes around...."

"Payback is a B****!" LMAO (sorry)

Bright Blessings
Whitewolf
