Witch Says Customers Looking For Compassion

Author: Brianna Bailey, The Norman Transcript   Source: Cushing Daily Citizen (OK)

Title: WITCH SAYS CUSTOMERS LOOKING FOR COMPASSION

A small sign is posted on the wall behind the rows of incense sticks at Georgia Reavis’ shop Raven Feathers at 106 S. Crawford Ave.

It reads “Those who buy will be blessed 10 times. Those who steal are cursed!”

A thoroughly modern witch, Reavis also has security cameras, in case potential shoplifters aren’t deterred by bad karma.

Tucked away on a quiet side street in downtown Norman, the shelves at Raven Feathers are lined with books about witchcraft, semi-precious stones, candles for spells and incantations, and statues of various deities from around the world.

Reavis also was the first licensed Wiccan minister in Oklahoma. She was ordained in 1978, and is an elder in the Georgian tradition of Wicca.

I am particularly surprised and pleased that this article appeared in the Cushing Daily Citizen -- unlike the City of Norman which has many comparatively open-minded college students, Cushing is indeed a small town, I have been there in the past when some of my relatives lived there. I suspect the response to this article will pique much curiosity in Cushing. Note also that the article that was written by a writer of the Norman Transcript. ;-)

I don't get to Norman often, but a little over a year ago, I took a thirty-minute trip to Norman and visited the Raven Feathers shop for the first time. Georgia greeted me when I walked in. Even though there was not much time left before the shop closed for the evening, she did not rush my purchase. She had a calming effect, and it certainly would have been nice to have chatted with her longer, mind you she did not rush me, but I felt compelled to leave because the shop was closed and I didn't want to appear impolite. I believe that if I had stayed longer, she would have continued talking with me. From my own lasting impression of her, it sounds quite reasonable that customers would seek her compassion.
