Geronimo's Descendants Sue For Return Of Remains

Author: The Associated Press Source: Tampa Bay Online

Title: GERONIMO'S DESCENDANTS SUE FOR RETURN OF REMAINS
Descendants of American Indian leader Geronimo are suing the federal government, Yale University and a secret society, seeking custody of the Apache chief's remains.
Geronimo's great-grandson, Harlyn Geronimo, says the family believes the Yale group Skull and Bones took some of the remains in 1918 or 1919 from a burial plot at Fort Sill, Okla.

No one is singling out the Bushes beyond the original involvement of Prescott Bush in the alleged theft and initial abuse of the remains. Perhaps it is good that Geronimo's descendants waited - modern forensics and DNA testing will easily determine the truth.
Since you seem concerned that this effort is targeted at Republican Bonesmen and not Democratic ones, it may comfort you to know that it is President Obama, not President Bush, who is named as a defendant in this lawsuit.
Then again, it is also more likely that President Obama will actually do something to address the concerns of this long disenfranchised sector of the citizenry than President Bush ever would have. He holds honorary membership with the Blackfoot Sioux tribe. His Indian name is Black Eagle.

The U.S. Army said that the descendants of Geronimo can get the remains anytime they wish.
There is no evidence that the Skull & Bones society ever stole any of the remains of Geronimo. More like a stick in the eye to the Bushes, while forgetting that John Kerry was member of said secret society as well.
Just let the family receive his remains and place them with proper sacred rites within ancestral lands. Then let this story die.

that it's LONG past time to return Geronimo's remains to WHERE THEY BELONG. He deserves to rest in peace in the EarthMothers arms. As one with a lot of Native American in me - Cherokee and Blackfoot, I hope they're successful.
Love to all

in this, and agree that using the bones of others is wrong.
If the members of that society want to do bone ritual, they should look to their own ancestors, not others'.

I'm not sure that The Tomb is on Yale Property, being a private society. Federal Government might be sued over custody of the Ft. Sill Cemetary, but not for what the Bonesmen have been keeping.
My understanding is, when some Bush or other tried to return "The Bones of Geronimo," they were too small, and must have belonged to a child. It's likely only a myth, that the bones of Geronimo were kept in the Tomb, like Michael Jackson's Nose.
I wonder, whether those who've peaked in College, really do succeed in expected proportion?

The time of using the bones of the dead for any purpose should be long over. I wonder how Bush and others would feel if someone dug up or took the remains of his grandfather or other family members for purposes undisclosed and kept them. You can bet someone would be throwing a big fit about it. Why should these folk be any different?
