Gay Ceremony To Draw Protests

Author: Adam Smeltz Source: Centre Daily Times (PA)

Title: GAY CEREMONY TO DRAW PROTESTS
The same-sex commitment ceremony scheduled for March 29 may well have some company.
Ceremony opponents,, led largely by the Rev. Gary G. Dull, are planning a “pro-family- values rally” to coincide with the commitment event, Dull said last week.
They plan to hold the rally somewhere on the University Park campus while the commitment ceremony is under way in the Penn State HUBRobeson Center, he said.
Other opposition has arisen from the American Family Association of Pennsylvania and some other religious groups.

.... marriage has been on life support ever since the Baby Boomers got ahold of it. Beyond a handful of legalisms (sharing insurance, filing taxes jointly, etc.) I'm amazed that people still care about it, one way or the other.

I don't see what interest the state has in the gender of the person you enter into a marriage contract with. Consenting adults should be free.
I also do not understand how same sex couples threaten heterosexual marriage; unless it's something like "whenever I make love to my wife, I just can't stop thinking about those gay couples, having fun . . . with their oiled, well-toned bodies. . . ." ;-)
My wife and I know and hang out a lot with same sex couples, and it doesn't hurt our marriage at all.

NOTHING HAS CHANGED HERE AT ALL.
I would like to see my state, of which I am exceptionally proud, be upheld as an example of the place where gay marriage is legal, and civilization hasn't fallen. But it'll never happen because bigoted creeps want to continue using the so called "argument" that gay people getting married will destroy society. Hey, why bother with the actual fact when the fiction gets such a terrific knee jerk response and ever so much publicity?

Now there's a man who really lives down to his name! Not only is he dull, so is his argument. I feel that fully consenting adults, male or female should have a right to choose-- and marry their own partners regardless of gender. That should be a given, but it isn't, according to some folk. Marriage or a union- is a partnership contract between two people, whether or not there are children involved or planned. In this day and age, children are no longer the first issue in the works, as some households put off childbearing until their later years-or longer, and religion itself should take a back seat-if any seat at all, since it is not really necessary in running a household on a daily basis. And there is nothing wrong in two men or two women raising a child in a single gender household as long as they are responsible- and many definitely are. (that is more than can be said of "regular" households--or even some preachers, for that matter) .

Soon, they'll allow polygamy, and not just polygyny, but polyandry, too! And child-marriage! And then they'll marry goats and people! That's why it's disastrous!
Seriously, though, if you don't want gay marriage, don't have a gay marriage. Have a straight marriage. Frankly, my opinion has always been: as long as you don't hurt anyone, do what you want. You know "An it harm none..." Even polygamy. The only 'disaster' it would cause would be to continue to weaken Christian's control. Good or bad, that's the only thing it would do.
And really, Dull? LOL, I'd change my name.

HOW??? How would it be a disaster? Fundies say this all the time, but I have yet to see ANY points of debate! Just because thier Holy Book says it's wrong??? That's not a point, ...that's a RELIGION.
It's just the same old fundy rants, by fundies who want to control other peoples lives! Fascist, wanna-be-dictators!

This made a few tears come to my eyes. My fiance and I will be having our wedding ceremony (Christian ceremony since we had our handfasting last year) on March 29th. I think it is a wonderful thing to share our day with these couples! Congrats to them all!

I am thrilled to be legally registered Pagan clergy in the state of Massachusetts. I have been privileged to do marriage cermonies for folks looking to make their legal vows (by their own choice) personal...including two lovely men and two wonderful women...so far. May there be many more,of all walks! 'Bless...

You'd think these guys would be too busy messing up their own families, to worry about to people starting a new family together. -_-
Best wishes and love to the happy couple though.

I am reminded of elementary school when you are taught to get along with everyone in the class. when the teacher explains we should celebrate our differences and embrace other cultures.
What happened?
No one has the right to mandate who I can and can not love. All people deserve the right to be happy.

who don't give a rat's patooty if gay people get married, and I'm one of them! As far as I'm concerned, if you're gay, you're gay.... if you're not gay, you're not gay, as my Mum says, that's the way the ball bounces and the cookie crumbles. I have to agree with Young Coyote.... the fundies definately need a hobby or something....!
Love to all

| "Family Values" | Mar 9th. at 11:36:50 pm EDT
|

Strix (Duanesburg, New York) - Email Me

This phrase, "family values" has really become code for right-wing fundy bigotry against gays (and the whole GLBT community, and equality for women, and reproductive rights, etc...) and has nothing to do with real, important family values such as providing a safe, secure and loving place for people to live and kids to grow up. Another fine example of real-world Orwellian doublespeak.
I think the government should recognize civil unions only, for anyone, and leave "marriage" to different religious and cultural groups entirely.

if "The Church" did finally lose it's tax-exempt status, that would be it for the church. They'd go bankrupt in a day.
I don't get all defensive when fundies get married, why should I get defensive when same-sex couples are married? (Yes, I do realize this isn't an actual legal marriage.) BTW, my state issued marriage certificate actually does say "License and Certificate of Marriage", right at the top. It's legal, it's state issued, and it's a marriage certificate. Says nothing about "Civil Union" on it. I think this is what same-sex couples are striving towards, and more power to'em! If they want that legal marriage certificate, one that says that they are married, I think they have as much right to it as my hubby and I do.
Lora, too funny! I'll have to remember some of those. X-D
Young Coyote, didn't you know? This IS their hobby. What they need is a NEW hobby.
Nanu Orca, I had some fun with that game as well. *G*
To the people committing to each other in this ceremony, I say "WOOOHOOO!" I'd love for someone to organize such a thing in RI. I'd go just to show support.

I know this has been a gray area and the courts have not given a final determination, I believe, but for a religious org to retain its tax exempt status, it must remain non-political. If it seeks to influence governmental policies or political decisions, it holds itself up to loosing their tax exemption status.
