Pay Too Much And You Could Raise The Alarm

Author: Bob Kerr   Source: The Providence Journal

Title: PAY TOO MUCH AND YOU COULD RAISE THE ALARM

Walter Soehnge is a retired Texas schoolteacher who traveled north with his wife, Deana, saw summer change to fall in Rhode Island and decided this was a place to stay for a while.

They paid down some debt. The balance on their JCPenney Platinum MasterCard had gotten to an unhealthy level. So they sent in a large payment, a check for $6,522.

After sending in the check, they checked online to see if their account had been duly credited. They learned that the check had arrived, but the amount available for credit on their account hadn't changed.

They were told, as they moved up the managerial ladder at the call center, that the amount they had sent in was much larger than their normal monthly payment. And if the increase hits a certain percentage higher than that normal payment, Homeland Security has to be notified. And the money doesn't move until the threat alert is lifted.

So now you can be investigated for paying your bills?! Damn I'm glad I don't have any credit cards in my name. Just one joint card with my other half (who's a reverand) for emergencies. I didn't even want that one, but she insisted so she wouldn't worry.

Well, if Homeland Security can mess with people's money, maybe it's time to go back to the ol' barter system. Make something, trade it for something else. No money involved, no taxes to fund that fascist organization.

Geez, this didn't even happen to me and it ticks me off to no end. This whole country has gotten itself backwards lately. I hope the next president can put things back on track.

Next on Homeland Security's Agenda: finding out how efficient all our trips to the bathroom are to the American economy. Spend more than 10 minutes in a bathroom per day and enjoy the rest of your life being on the NSA's "possible threat" list.

Well there goes the hope of paying off my card in a lump sum without it being considered a threat. I guess you have to be in debt to be considered a "good american".

... doesn't cover much.

Did you know that if you deposit $ 5,000 or more in the bank ... any amount exceeding $ 5,000 will not clear for ten days?
