School Renames Easter Bunny 'Peter Rabbit'

Author: ABC News Source: ABC News (US)

Title: SCHOOL RENAMES EASTER BUNNY 'PETER RABBIT'
A Rhode Island public school has decided the Easter bunny is too Christian and renamed him Peter Rabbit, and a state legislator is so hopping mad he has introduced an "Easter Bunny Act" to save the bunny's good name.
"Like many Rhode Islanders I'm quite frustrated … by people trying to change traditions that we've held in this country for 150 years, like the Easter bunny," Rhode Island State Rep. Richard Singleton told "Good Morning America Weekend Edition."
The Easter bunny was scheduled to make an appearance at a craft fair on Saturday at Tiverton Middle School in Tiverton, R.I.
But the district's schools Superintendent William Rearick told event organizers to change the bunny's name to Peter Rabbit in "an attempt to be conscious of other people's backgrounds and traditions."

the comments on the site. The most recent has someone saying that EaStar is the pagan god of fertility, lol. I couldn't help myself, I tried to comment, but I couldn't register for some reason. At any rate, the ignorance of some of the commentators astounds me. They keep going on about the ACLU (not involved) , being PC, and how they've taken the "under God" out of the pledge. Oy Vey!!! And, as someone here pointed out, all for the sake of a symbol that isn't even a part of their religion. Amazing!!!

is very likely to have something to say about stealing her famous (and probably copyrighted/trademarked) Peter for their celebration. Maybe they should call their bunny Ralph.

Don't these people have jobs, preferably full time ones or if that's not available two part-times so that they don't have so much free time on their hands to get up to nonsense like this.

Talk about cutting off your own head to spite your neighbor's face! Not all Christians or Christianists are totally unaware of the hidden reality behind their religion's claims not to be a plagarized faith. Try the following book:
Pagan Holidays – or God’s Holy Days – Which? by Herbert W. Armstrong Worldwide Church of God, Pasadena, CA. ©1957, 1973, 1974.

I thought for a moment that this was a satire! Which goes to prove that the actions of some lend themselves more to satire than some jokes could possibly be.
Even the term Easter, itself is pagan in origin! Our bunny, doesn't need a name change- and in this case, really didn't get one. Peter was always his name. Or are those cartoon Easter specials all wrong?

Some people are just strange and funny. In their defense, I know some Christians who are aware that many of their holidays are coopted. If only more Christians were like them. Then again, while we have some Xtians (notice the difference in terminology) who call for our blood, we also have some (sometimes one in the same) Xtians who provide us with endless comedic effect! I mean honestly, PETER RABBIT?!?!?! HAHAHAHAHA! Poor clueless peeps.
Oh and for the Christians that I know who know that they took Pagan/Heathen holidays and traditions, I get along with them quite well. Now for the Xtians on the other hand... Yes lots of them are mean. Yes lots of them are loonies (remember the recent Disney move?) . Heck, most of them are both. But Christians and Xtians are NOT the same thing. Save the hate for the Xtians. Not all CHRIStians are great, but this is mostly due to misinformation. Think about it, many of us were once Christian (or even Xtian for a few) .
Xtians are so funny sometimes........

Getting all enraged about protecting a symbol that isn't even really a part of their religion.
My irony meter just exploded.

His formal title would have been Pitr Gottentoelle, earned by performing a Theology before Isis. I can understand a school not wanting to explain his more popular monicker of Ishtar's Bonny, but that's how Lagomorphs came to be called Bunnies.
In other incarnations, he was known in the North of Pre-Minoan Crete as the Poor Bhagavan, or Paul Bunyan, and arrived in Julundur, where Santa was partying, as Pecos Baal. I remember passing out, when they were dancing the story of Cattle Drives.
"By the way, Peter Rabbit stole cabbages and that's not a good role model for out kids," he joked.
The works of Beatrix Potter were on the level which gained many men sanctification, so I suppose we'll have to regard Peter Rabbit as Scripture.

Well, last time I checked, Eostre was/is a Pagan goddess after which Easter is named! Both the hare and eggs go way back and are found the world over in many different Pagan traditions, from India to Egypt to the Northern Heathen lands. Check out the book "An Egg at Easter" by Venetia Newell. It is a two-inch thick tome filled with nothing but lore nearly all Pagan in origin, in regards to this subject. And don't forget~ when you look up to the sky in the evening, the egg-bringing hare can be found pictured on our very moon! Check out the Hare in the Moon~

...For mentioning that South Park episode. I'm just sad I wasn't the first to mention it!
(For those of you in the dark, a recent episode of South Park parodied "The DaVinci Code" by saying that Saint Peter was originally a rabbit, and this was something the Catholic Church was trying to cover up so they could put a man in power... if you're in to that sort of humor, I would highly recommend that episode. They don't deal with the Pagan side really, but the undertones are there and the way they deal with the Catholic church is very amusing.)
I have to agree that folk legends really aren't that bad. Letting the Easter Bunny come to visit a school is harmless, just like Santa Clause and all of the other commercialized money makers are harmless (except to our wallets) . Now, if they had a crucifix in the school and were talking about how Easter is really about Jesus rising from the dead, then I would be concerned.

Santa Clause, the Tooth Fairy, Frosty the Snowman, Jack Frost, Paul Bunyon and many other folk ledgends and heros. They all need protection. I however have a particular fondness for the Groundhog, the only real personality in the group.
