13th May Be Lucky Day For Shelter's Black Cats

Author: Anne P. Braly, The Chattanooga Times Free Press   Source: MSNBC

Title: 13th MAY BE LUCKY DAY FOR SHELTER'S BLACK CATS

Friday the 13th may seem like a bad day to adopt a black cat -- you know, witches, magic, bad luck, yadda yadda.

But you can save $87 by taking a black cat home from the McKamey Animal Care and Adoption Center Friday through Sunday.

Black cats -- typically harder to place than other colors -- will be sold for $13 instead of the usual price of $100. Or the shelter will allow people to take home two black cats for $25.

Each cat comes with a microchip to help locate the animal if it gets lost. Each also has been vaccinated and tested for feline leukemia.

is lucky for any creature adopted by a loving family, and it seems the black ones seem to need it most. I hope some did manage to get lucky.

When ever I adopted a cat in the past it has always been black. I knew how they had more problems being adopted so I figured if I'm bringing home a cat she/he may as well be black. Then I met my husband. According to him and his mother (who are both from England) , they are considered good luck there. Now I'm not sure if this is just a regional thing or not but I sort of like it. So to me, my black cat brings me tons of good luck.

Stop Being Such A Conspiracy Fanatic.... Mar 13th. at 8:41:51 pm EDT

if I lived in Chattanooga, I'd be taking home two lovable balls of fur without hesitation. 'Course, I'd take home a cat of any color. be happy cats are getting a home. And maybe the shelter can help inform the public of how black cats (and dogs) are more often euthanized because of their unpopularity, thanks to those stupid myths about animals with dark coats.

Last time I checked, those microchips caused cancer in the implanted animals. It's a case of "good idea gone bad."
