Court To Decide If New Age Group Has Right To Erect Monument in Public Park

Author: Penny Starr, Senior Staff Writer & Sara Burrows   Source: CNSNews.com

Title: COURT TO DECIDE IF NEW AGE GROUP HAS RIGHT TO ERECT MONUMENT IN PUBLIC PARK

A group founded by a former member of the Mormon Church that blends the ancient Egyptian rite of mummification, Gnostic Christianity and New Age philosophy will have its day in court – the U.S. Supreme Court -- on Wednesday.

Salt Lake City-based Summum filed suit after the city of Pleasant Grove, Utah, refused its request to erect a monument depicting its “Seven Aphorisms” in a park that contains a monument featuring the Ten Commandments, which was erected by the Fraternal Order of Eagles in 1971.

The 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in 2007 that the city had violated the group’s free-speech rights guaranteed under the U.S. Constitution, paving the way for the nation’s highest court to hear the case next week.

Well, My Gods Are Represented Nov 10th. at 6:29:02 pm EST

there's a tree in the park, right?
or at least grass?
if not that, it must rest on soil with the sun shining down;
so my gods are present there.

that aside - of course, no on religion can be held up by the state above others. it must be open to any monuments - or have none. some people interpret "freedom of religion" to mean "freedom of MY religion"

Skillful Fraud Of "news" Style Nov 10th. at 6:25:15 pm EST

This story could be an interesting project for a journalism class, to identify and explain all the reasons it's a fraud by pretending to be journalism. The subtle biases and presentation of editorial positions as if factual references is creative, such as how it implies government entities have Constitutional speech rights, as opposed to the reality that rights accrue only to persons, and are protections against government abuses.

The very idea that an entity called "the" Ten Commandments exists is also a fraud, as different Protestant and Catholic sects have two major and several minor different sets of what's called that, based on two different sets of biblical words, with various editorial and translation variants. Perhaps any historic display could be required to display several and explain their differences, including how "thou shalt not kill" is never correct, however common, and how Judaic law with which "thou shalt not murder" is compatible calls for rising up and killing thugs, frauds, and bullies who use devious means to impose religious monuments in government venues by acting as oppressors. So does Leland's Aradia, Gospel of the Witches, in a slightly different manner based on the Strega history likely used as a source by Valiente and Gardner in their contributions to modern paganisms. Just as with Judaic law, that old Strega doctrine for much of modern Dianic religion was likely a form of social justice movement, as the targets were wealthy donors funding Vatican Crusades and genocide campaigns in the hills of Northern Italy. It could be mighty interesting were these public displays to require balancing elements of xtian bible interpretation and comparison with Judaic law and pagan traditions, that all consider it legal if not obligatory to kill the officials imposing Ten Commandments monstrosities.

How big would the set of displays be, if in order to consider one sect's dogma as part of a cultural collection, all equivalents represented by Americans were also required to be included? To honestly take that approach could lead to some interesting cultural and historic collections, though the bible thumpers might disdain how little of the overall project they could dominate. It'd be interesting to see the Seven Aphorisms more widely compared, but they don't qualify for legal favoritism by selective display absent larger and fully balancing context either.

The other key misrepresentation by selective presentation of history this article makes is that Jefferson's Jan 1, 1802 reply letter to Danbury Baptists doesn't reflect specific rights within the 1st Amendment. Of course it uses words not explicit in our Constitution, but to the extent Jefferson represented one of the core schools of thought among the Founding Fathers, his "wall of separation" concept inherently represents the "original intent" of the less wordy specification that is the 1st Amendment's Free Exercise and Establishment clauses.

that to avoid conflicts that NO religious monuments should be put up in public. If they want them, put them on private land.

Love to all

I figure that if the ten commandments can reside in a public place, then others have a right to erect their own plaques and monuments there as well.
Either that-or take the ten commandments down, since not everyone accepts them as their own laws.
Frankly, I would like to see fewer of these monuments on public lands. Less statuary and more green. It would be better for the environment.

We cant let the Summum Cult put up something, but we can let the Christain Death Cult put up thiers cause of the rampant reviosonist history of David Barton of Wall Builders can manipulate history and feed to Christian home schoolers. Tehn those home schoolers go to fake Universities that are named after the Founding Fathers or other Fascist cover names like Liberty. Graduate with fake degrees cause Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, James Dobson, Jay Sekulow, and Phylis Shafly have a hidden agenda through the Council for National Policy to rule America in a Dominionist fashion.

And since Dubya has been in office these Fascist retards have had favorable placment in the White House, putting key opertives into positions of power. And now that Obama has been selected everyone thinks it is the libs turn to get revenge, all the while thinking this crap will end.

Hell let the Summum group put it up. Equal right and all. Just when you wake up and this fascist coup is over and your living in a teocratic state because of all this left and right wing bull-crap. Dont wast your time crying for help.

Wake up, and quit this foolishness.

It has a 10 commandments monument, so either take that down and don't let any religion be represented publicly or let the group put theirs up also.

Personally, I prefer the removing of all monuments because people should be going to the park for health and natural beauty, not to see religious displays (well... most people don't anyway) .
